Customer Questions & Answers

connecting to the door track

my garage door at the bottom has a track/groove. Do you think the top of the seal will fit within the groove so for me to install it, I would just slide it through from one side to the other side. I shouldn't need any screws. My garage door is metal.
Asked by: TZTexas
Ha, I wrote this question. Now that I installed it, it was easier than I initially thought. I did not need screws, caulk, adhesive, or even dish soap to slide the product along the track.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect product I have a metal 2 garage door, 16 ft long. I have a metal cover strip that covers the bottom of the door. Connected, between the metal strip and door was a rubber seal. My current rubber seal was almost completely worn. I removed the screws at the base of the metal strip and with a screwdriver was able to pry a small opening between the metal strip and bottom of garage door. I removed the old rubber strip and this product easily fit in perfect. I reinstalled the screws and I was done. The entire replacement from start to finish was within 30 minutes. I did not use any caulk as I believe the previous seal had. I did not need any of the screws that came with this product since I already had the metal strip that wrapped around the bottom of the garage door. If I planned better, I would have take before, during and after pictures. Now when I go in my garage I cannot see any sun light coming in from the bottom of the garage door. This was the perfect product for my garage door.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It didn't solve my problem I thought this would close the gap and resolve my problem, but it did not. As others have said, for metal doors, you need to purchase self-tapping sheet metal screws, which are not provided. After installing, I still have gap - garage door is as far down as possible, so my handyman is trying to come up with another solution. This is not thick enough. Wish I was able to see it and purchase it in the store before purchasing online, but they don't sell it in the stores; I likely never would have bought it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Universal? Yes, but NOT for Wayne Dalton doors I bought two of these the same day... Installed mine, which was a complete success- you can do it by yourself, but be sure to use dishsoap to help move thru track. I had no problem doing it by myself, but if you're not real handy, you may want to have a second person to help pull it through as you're pushing through- it's somewhat of a timesaver doing it that way. The second install I attempted was not successful – this was for my neighbor's garage door and she has a Wayne Dalton door. In order to get the right one for these garage doors, you either have to go online and buy it 'Wayne Dalton specific' or again, if you're not real handy, I'd have a service person from Wayne Dalton come out and replace it for you. They are quite tricky and the ends are cramped, which you have to drill out... Very carefully, I might add. Yes, Wayne Dalton has somewhat gone out of business, but the part that is still functioning is the garage door side. The garage door OPENER side has gone out of business (iDrives, etc.) So, in a nutshell, yes I do recommend it in general, but definitely not for a Wayne Dalton garage door... It will NOT even begin to go thru the track because the ends are entirely different. When installed correctly, you get a great bottom seal and it should last you 3-5 years depending on what state you live in/the weather you have. Due to the heat here in Arizona, I just make it a habit of replacing mine every three years.
