Customer Questions & Answers

Controls keep "locking"

Just installed and have found the controls keep defaulting to the "locked" setting even after adjusting the lower section temperature. After a brief period the lock light comes on and stays on. Then the lower section doesn't change temperature and the light cannot be turned on/off. The manual seems to say that once you unlock the control panel it should stay that way until you manually lock it and locking the panel should not prevent the unit from cooling. Anyone else encounter this problem?.

What is the actual width with the door open?

Asked by: Dusty
The door pivots, but it looks to be about 1/2 inch beyond the width of the Beverage Cooler with the door at 90° open.

What is REALLY the minimum temp

The specs say 36, but the answers to questions say different things. One says 39 + or - 5 degrees. I need an ABSOLUTE minimum of 39 or less or ain't interested. Had wine coolers before that only go to the low 40s, no good.
Asked by: Larryo
Doesn't matter. After a couple of weeks the bottom portion will cool to room temperature.

It looks nice and fits well in our kitchen area. However, it does not keep a good temperature. We have had it for a few months now, and we first noticed a temperature rise when we re-loaded the sodas were are keeping on the bottom shelf. We passed this off with the amount of cans we loaded and how long we had the door opened. It has now happened several more times and will no longer get below 45 degrees. We have removed everything from it, pulled it out from its location under the counter, and made sure it was completely level and it still will not cool down to the level it is suppose too. This could be a one time fridge event, but we will not buy another one.

This is one of the biggest pieces of junk ever made, and I was dumb enough to buy a second one. The first one had an error on the bottom zone after about 2 years. Looked it up and found out it was the fan not blowing. The wires on the harness are almost the thickness of a human hair and had broken off. I direct wired it and it worked for another few months then totally died. We like the look and features of this unit, so I bought another one. Guess what. This one is about a year old and the temp on the bottom zone is going up and won't cool down. No error code this time, just doesn't cool. I'm going to find out what other names this piece of junk is sold under and make sure I never buy ANYTHING made by this company. I sure hope they don't make any type of medical devices. Pretty sure I'd be a goner if I had to depend on something made by this company. I gave it one star because 0 was not an option.

Having paid between $300 and $400, I thought this would be a great unit. It died in January 2017 when it stopped cooling in the upper zone. Soon after, the lower zone stopped cooling too. The compressor gets really hot, as it should if it is working but the coils are not getting hot. The warranty on the parts is 1 year, and the compressor 5 years. The company offered to send me a new compressor but the labor cost to reinstall the new compressor is over $300 at multiple places I called. This unit is not worth buying unless you are okay with spending $300 on a unit every 2.5 years.

I have two Magic Chef units that I bought during a remake, one of these and one that is single zone. The single zone gave out, after I forget how long, but I found a fix online. However, that fix involved opening up the unit and fixing some wiring that had rusted out. Very poor design and for a fix to be shown by other users it implies it is a common occurrence. Now, after trying to adjust the temperature this unit appears to have died, I simply hear a clicking noise when the unit perhaps is trying to initiate a cooling response. Will be shutting it off in awhile now that both sides of the unit are showing 73 degrees for the temperature readout. What a waste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Understand the product before you by You will read a lot of bad reviews for the product but you have to understand what you are getting in order to be happy with it. First and foremost it is a beverage cooler not a refrigerator. Three months after installing my unit, the lower section stopped cooling. Immediately, I thought all of the negative comments were accurate and I had made a mistake. I decided to look at the unit and do some investigation before trying to take advantage of the warranty or return it. I discovered the entire back off the lower section was a block of ice behind the panel. The unit was not defrosting. I discovered that due to a poor design and configuration of shelves I had chosen, that I had set the unit up for failure. I had the top zone set at 40 degrees and the lower zone at 38 degrees. I realized that those two factors caused the compressor to run too much and not allow it to defrost. I unplugged the unit for a day, let it completely defrost, dried the unit out and started from scratch. First, I took every thing out of the unit including the shelves and turned it on. Within two hours both zones were cooling correctly.( I set the top zone at 41 degrees and the lower zone at 40 degrees. I added the racks to the top zone which caused the temp to rise a couple of degrees but within 15 minutes it was back to the set temp. I added the racks to the lower zone and the temp went up about 6 degrees and after an hour had not come down at all. I discovered my mistake was using a glass shelf between the fan and the temp sensor. Once I replaced the glass shelf with a wire rack, the temp went down to the preset temp. I then place a glass shelf above both the fan and the temp sensor and the unit had no problem maintaining the correct temp. after the unit had run at temp for several hours, I loaded the top with wine and water bottles. Anytime you load warm bottles, the temp will rise. This is to be expected. after about three and a half hours, the temp returned to the preset temp. I then loaded the lower half with about 40 sodas and 20 water bottles. I took about 5 hours for the lower unit to return to temp. Now that I have the right shelf configuration and I don't try to run the unit at its lower temp, it works flawlessly. The compressor runs less than half of the time it previously ran. If you follow these simple recommendations, I believe you too can enjoy this cooler. As far as I can tell the next closet comparable model is more than twice the price of this unit so i was easier for me to find a configuration that worked than spend twice the money. Remember these steps 1. Bring the unit to temp completely empty. 2. Add your shelf configuration and make sure it stays at temp, putting a glass shelf between either fan and the temp sensor for that zone is going to impact performance 3. When initially loading, load one zone at a time 4. Refill the unit at night when the door ca remain closed 6 or more hours. These simple steps will make you a happy customer
