Makita’s 12 in. Compound Miter Saw (model LS1221) combines power, performance, and ease of use for most common miter cuts for a range of applications. The LS1221 has a dynamically balanced 15 AMP direct drive motor with 4,000 RPM for improved performance, and is engineered not to slip or bog down like belt-drive units. The LS1221 has a large capacity with a 4-1/2 in. tall pivoting fence for cutting up to 5-1/2 in. crown molding and a pivoting fence for supporting larger stock. The saw has 9 positive miter stops at 15 degrees, 22.5 degrees, 31.6 degrees, and 45 degrees (left or right), and 0 degrees (90 degrees cuts). The precision-machined aluminum base ensures accurate cuts. Ease-of-use features include a horizontal D-handle design for easy and comfortable operation, and a compact size (weighs only 37 lbs.) for easy portability.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not perfect, but the best I've found out of 4 others I owned 2 DeWalt's, a Bosch, and the Delta miter saws and ended my quest when I found this one. If you are into carpentry work just about ANY saw will suit your needs, but if your into fine, near perfect square cuts, look no further. The DeWalt's couldn't come close to square cuts, the Bosch was nice but inaccurate, the Delta was close but pinched your fingers when doing miters. I decided to try the Makita and was pleased more with it than all the above mentioned. Today's saws are usually dual compound miters, which are fine for carpentry work, but if your after hair line cuts that are just about "dead-on" this is about the best you"ll find. I had mine for 10 yrs and the brake went up on me the other night, I sent it for repair and then went to my local Home Depot to purchase another....... "This saw is that good." I build furniture (where joinery is critical) and nothing so far has come close in terms of near perfect square cuts. If you can find a miter saw that doesn't compound (this does to ONE side) you may have found a more accurate saw, but till then, look no further! And I'll gladly own 2 when my other is repaired October 1, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Makita 12 in-dual compound miter saw performance I have been a finish carpenter for over 42 years and run my own business for over 14 years now. i have built everything from small production homes to high end custom homes all over north east Ohio. and with all this talk of bad economy i have yet to see a slow down in my particular field. I have used numerous brands of tools over the years. I'm not going to waste time on any of the tools that claim to be the best in price or quality. I have tried them ALL and i can be pretty rough on my tools sometimes. But my best results in every project I've undertaken no matter how small has turned out extremely successful only because of the quality of my tools the Makita 12 in. compound miter saws along with many other Makita tools make my job a lot easier. I have experimented from time to time with others and i always come back to the best. thank you. October 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makita makes great saws and provides nice blades too Got this to replace a Ridgid 12" slider that was OK but took up too much space, My most used material is 1"x 6" which this saw can cut 3 at a time with ease. Also have a 10" Makita that I really like which is why I decided to try this 12" one. Both saws came with fine blades which is also a plus. There is something about these saws that is hard to describe other than to say they just feel right for me. November 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good saw for the money Out of the box accurate.45's and 22 1/2's. Con is that the dust collection system is undersized. I needed an adapter to get from the 1" discharge to my 2-1/2" dust collection hose. With the 1" discharge, the bag is small and doesn't work very well collecting dust. Even with the dust collection hose attached, the 1" hole is too small to collect the dust and it falls underneath the saw. Makita should re-design the system to accommodate a 2-1/2" discharge opening and a larger dust collection bag for a cleaner operation. February 26, 2014
