Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PapawJeff Its really worth the bucks for a better saw !
Granted, its a very simple project, but I got the ramp to the shed built today, and I gotta say that new Makita Circular Saw I bought last night really made the project a super easy project.
Its really the first good circular saw I have ever owned.
The others over the years have gotten the job done, but not with the ease of the new saw.
There really is a difference in quality between a $49 saw and a $149 dollar saw....I just didn't know how much I would appreciate the nicer saw :)

I bought it 2 days ago. ordered on line, went to HD and picked it up a few hours later- courteous and quick.
It has a rip guide-fence
It has the cotter key for changing the blade that's hid next to the electric cord
Mine has a white light that shines on the blade at a right angle-well hid and protected. Couldn't see it til dusk.
It weighs 10.1 lbs.
It's fun to use and easy to control. I'm a 5' 2" 74 years old
It's easy to put away. It's easy and quick to adjust blade depth. It doesn't have the increment finissee of older saws, but it works well.'
The shaft lock is one of the best that I've ever used-and my dad had one of the first circular saws in Los Angeles. I've used and owned many different saw brands
It's so quick and easy to adjust anything-everything.
It's pretty and it matches my fave earrings. I'm sort of glad my old one burnt out after 12 years.

good brand name but not as durable as the cheaper Makita saw. I like it for the 56 degree bevel cut

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FinishCarpenter1726 Weight perfectly distributed! So solid, durable.
As a finish carpenter, the circle saw is often my go to saw as Ive become very comfortable making many types of cuts with them. But no matter how skilled the user, the saw has to hold up. My old saw started wearing out and I was struggling to make simple cuts. As I am recently self employed, contracting finish carpentry, wanted to buy the best saw on the market for consistency and reviews pointedto this Makita. And I am sure glad I spent the couple extra bucks. This Makita is well-built, it is solid. Its not the lightest one out there, but its perfectly distributed weight makes it feel like the lightest. It has an easy to read saw line, that realigns up when you shift the blade at an angle by having multiple guide lines for different angles, just follow the one your set up for, very nice feature. Every part of the saw you would need to grip is coated with durable soft rubber for an excellent feel. The saw guard included, has a nice rubber lever with a nice cushioned feel as it hits the bumber when released back to its original position. And the factory Makita blade is nice enough to use on finished wood. The extra couple dollars the saw costs, probably give you the quslity made plastic case, which is essential to the longevity of the saw. I usually kept my circlular saws in cloth bags, but Im not leaving this one lay around loose. This saw will last a long time 10 years. As long as I dont drop it or anything and I dont let a careless user operate it, I want 20 years out of it.

The extra power is worth the few extra bucks. Great for continuous use.

So in my mind I would say that the saw I just purchased was a display saw since I pulled it out of the case brand new. It didn't have a blade in the saw, nor would it power on. The feel of it was nice but is only good for a flashlight to see the line you are supposed to cut. In otherwords, the led lights are a nice addition but what good are they if I pull the trigger and nothing happens.
I would think that maybe it was bought and returned before but not a thing has a mark on it. No screws look like they have been removed, not even the blade bolt. Cord was perfectly wrapped and all packaging was intact and where it should be.
So to me it seems like there is a bit of a quality control issue with this but maybe it was a mix up with Home Depot. Who knows but I will be returning it once I get out of work today. Probably just my luck though.
