Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 164 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Compressor! I have a 60 gallon 230V shop unit but wanted a smaller unit for framing and deck work. I research tools a lot and hate cheap products. Compared to the Rolair w/ Toolbox, it does not have a 100% duty cycle or wheels. BUT if you are using a portable unit for 100% duty cycle you probably are over-taxing it anyways. I can drive 3 1/4 Ardox from a framing gun and get 26 nails into pressure treated wood w/o the Mac 2400 cutting in. That's good...REALLY good. Also, this unit is very quiet. Better yet, it refreshes fast (less that 2 mins). I think "portable" is a bit of a stretch -- it was portable when I was 22. But at age 52, it is "manageable." Same is true of most units. BTW - don't laugh at the wire gauge guide in the manual. They are correct - if you run this or any unit on less than 12 gauge cord, the low voltage will catch you up and you'll trip the overload on the motor. Only downside to unit is cord from pressure switch should come from other side of unit (a right handed person always steps on it when lifting and pulls out grommet (Easy fix is to route cord through front and out left side). Darn solid product -- heavy, professional feel. Makita thought this out. From the cooling fins on the air line to the heavy rubber foot pads and handle. I love this unit and Home Depot assistance was great. (Thanks Dennis @ Calgary Tuscany!) Highly recommended! July 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Machine... Although I am what most would call an "Amateur Do-It-Yourselfer", I do have a solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering. And this machine... is very well Engineered. I bought it days ago and have already used it for three jobs. In terms of noise level, it blows away my father's old Porter Cable (pun intended). It's also built like a tank, which is both a pro and con. One gets the feeling that if you took good care of it, you may just last just have it for the rest of your life - That said, I hope you have a strong back in your latter years. Thankfully, the handle is just as solid as the rest of this machine. Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat. July 4, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is a great compressor for its class, however, if you are a DIYer or perhaps a contractor with limited needs for a compressor, the MAC700 will probably do just as well. The size of this one just makes her a little awkward to move around. The extra CFM and tank size offered by this model wont make a big difference in jobs such as trim and hardwood installation unless you are really gunning it... or double gunning it... so keep that in mind. Otherwise, fit and finish is great and the noise level is truly bearable as compared to some of the pancake style compressors. This tool is quite a joy to have around! The only thing I don't like is the fact that the air filter protrudes beyond the roll cage. February 22, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good package Excellent unit. Best feature is it is noticeably quieter since it runs at half the RPM compared to most units. Cycles well between 120PSI and 100PSI. Proven reliable running 3.25" coil framing nailer. Even capable of running an average CFM 1/2" impact gun. (removed wheel nuts from a CASE skid steer rusted on for months problem) Note it is not light weight at just under 85lbs but appears to be built to last. September 23, 2008
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing unit This little compressor is big on performance. Get it on sale and you have a great little unit that can run pneumatic tools easily. Tank refill times are short. It is relatively quiet compared to a lot of other units out there. The only downside is the weight (around 70 lbs), otherwise a hands down great buy. January 26, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by IMO - Best Bang for your buck. I was in the market for a new compressor as my Porter Cable died. I was looking at the Dewalt 4 Gallon DD5154, the Makita and the Rigid 5 Gallon wheeled model. I use my compressor to run Framing Nailers (2 at a time), hardwood flooring staplers and finishing nailers primarily. I need portability to take from site to site coupled with maximum capacity. Without using the other models, I decided on the Makita based on overall fit and finish quality and portability. It may seem odd that I chose the only non-wheeled option but the Makita weighed in at 30 lbs less than the dewalt. I am not sure of the weight of the Rigid but shape makes it very awkward to lift into into the back of my truck. In addition to the overall weight, this model can be moved/carried with one hand. Operation of the unit unit is outstanding. This is the quietest unit I have ever used. It doesn't even break a sweat when two framing nailers are used. All in all....I am very happy with my purchase. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hands down, excellent compressor It's a quiet, and very powerful unit. Keeps nice, even pressure during recovery (which is awesomely quick!). The only downside is not just the weight of the unit but rather how awkward it is to carry. Other than that it's absolutely great compressor worth every penny. April 16, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This compressor is great, dual lines are nice and it keeps up with brad nailing no problem. Have to wait occasionally for it to catch up with the framing nailer though. Much quieter than its competitors. April 6, 2009
