Yes. If you just "pop" (pull the trigger slightly and let go quickly) the trigger slightly it helps to extract the screw more slowly and gives you more control without stripping the head or the screw. If you reverse the drill and back the screw out a few turns and then go to the forward position of the drill the screw will drive deeper into the material that you are drilling into. If you reverse the drill and back the screw out a few turns and then go to the forward position of the drill the screw will drive deeper into the material that you are drilling into. It is powerful enough to set a screw deep into wood if you are not careful, so just keep practicing and it will come easy for you! Good luck! Read Less

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's a Makita It's a Makita. I would expect nothing less. They are my favorite power tool. I have many Makitas. and always try to buy Makita. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is my second Makita drill. I wore the first one out after over 15 years of use. Excellent drill. Highly recommend it! Drill power is good even when I use it with an inverter and a 12 volt battery in the field. Chuck fits easily to tighten bits quickly into place. Trigger has good grip for drilling at all angles. Variable speed helps me so that I do not strip screw heads or break them off. Electrical cord is heavy duty and long enough to do most jobs without an extension cord. Shipping and customer service was excellent. I purchased the drill when on vacation in Michigan and it was delivered by the time I got home from vacation. The blue color helps to visually locate the drill in my garage tool area. September 27, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by she gits 'er done replacement for the exact same model (purchased years ago), but which was stolen recently. the old one was still performing perfectly, i expect this one to last many years as well. November 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of those that will last I just purchased this drill only because the equivalent Makita drill I purchased in 1991 finally gave up. After 22 years of driving deck screws, grinding/stripping plenty of painted metal projects, drilling holes of course, and even spinning oil pumps on new engine builds, this drill is well worth the money. The only thing wrong with the old one was the plastic cooling fan blew apart and parts are no longer available. Again, superior value! March 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good high speed drill. I was fortunate enough to borrow this drill from a coworker, which led to my recent purchase. This is a great drill for making small holes in metal, with its 2500 rpm. The keyed chuck helps ensure the bit stays secure. It's a good alternative to using a pneumatic drill. Assembled in USA as of June 2013. June 4, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by good high speed drill good high speed drill that works well. it is kind of cheaply built so I would say its meant for light duty only and wouldn't say to use it in an industrial setting. January 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not for low speed, high torque applications Not for low speed, high torque applications. Otherwise, okay August 12, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Performance use in Manufacturing, for about a month now at least 7hrs drilling holes. Just get's warm but can still use. Stays tight at chuck. September 6, 2011
