Customer Questions & Answers

Can this door be cut to 26" wide?

This is a hollow core door.
Asked by: BOB
You could but it'd be a real job to do it. Once you'd trim off the side (keeping it straight is going to be a bit of a challenge....I'd probably run painters tape down the edge I was trimming off to keep a clean line). Then you'd need take the trimmed off piece, get the front and back surfaces of the door off it to be able to tap it back into the hollow part (use a rubber mallet or piece of scrap wood over the piece you are hammering back in to protect it from breaking both the door seams and the wood strip). I'd suggest using a bead of wood glue when tapping back in and then finishing nails to make sure it's secure. Good luck with your project if you decide to take it on.

Can this door be cut down just a little?

I have an older double wide home. My door sized needs to be 29 3/4 by 78. would it be possible to cut this door to this size. I realize it is hollow but I was just wondering? thank you so much for your help! Roxann Hill
Asked by: Roxie
you can probably take 1/4" off of the hinge side and route the hinges to match the existing jamb. when you cut the bottom you will cut off the bottom rail. You can chisel or peel off with a knife the door skin on the rail. then glue the edges and re-insert into the bottom of the door and clamp.

does this come without the door knob cut out

Asked by: Della
Hello Della, Unfortunately, this specific door does not come prebored, however, if you do need the door prebored for a lock or handle set, you can contact your Local Home Depot in-store door specialist for pricing and availability on a special order model.

Asked by: Tishacook
Hello Tishacook, I would recommend contacting your local Home Depot in-store door specialist to inquire about the proper door size for your opening. This door would not suffice for your opening.

If you cut 1" off of the bottom you will lose the bottom rail. What you do next is peel the masonite off of the cut off rail. then put some wood glue on the sides and re-insert it in the bottom of the door then clamp. hope that helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pathetic If I were Masonite I'd be ashamed to put my brand name on this door. If I were Home Depot I'd be embarrassed to have this door in my store for my customers. I bought the door knowing it had a hardboard surface. I needed to cut 1" from the length of the door. When one does that the entire bottom rail is removed, it's only 3/4" thick. Also the top and bottom rails are not wood, they are cardboard. A drill bit will not cut through it like it does wood.
