Please give me a reason to not return this washer! I feel like it doesn't clean the clothes. I miss my old-school washer

Asked by: Pg
Extremely disappointed...my mistake by not reading all reviews, prior to purchase! Our previous Maytag was purchased in 1995. Other than the spin cycle (lid) sticking once-in-awhile, it was a gem. This was a panic purchase to say the least. It takes forever to wash a load of clothes, even on the one rinse cycle. I like to add liquid/powder cleaners, run a little water, then add clothes. But, even when cutting back on cleaners, residue remains. Maybe it's just me...the only advantage is it seems to spin out water well.

Where is the fabric softener dispenser located?

The description says it has one, but I can't find it in the pictures.
Asked by: Papermaker
It's on the top of the agitator.

I purchased this washer about a month ago and I have seriously put it to the test! As a mother of four, we have been able to really challenge this washer over the past month and I couldn't be more pleased! I love that you can put the water sensor on so that it fills to the amount that you have in there. The washer is very deep so small loads looks super small. It stands up to heavy loads, large loads and grimy loads! It makes some strange slushy and spraying noises so when I first used it I was a little concerned that something was wrong but now that I know that it is just its normal cycle sounds I don't worry, nor does it bother me. I have been able to wash 2 twin sized comforters at a time, 3 pillows at a time and about 8 pairs of jeans (even more if you have smaller children) at a time with ease! The only thing that I would change about this washer, and it's a minor issue for me, is that when you're loading it you can't have the lid open and the water running. It makes it a little tricky to top off the fabric softner compartment with water when it isn't running. This wasn't an issue for me but it may be for some, so I will mention it. The washer cycle takes about an hour. In my previous washers the cycles took about 30 minutes but this one runs as long as my dryer does. But I really like that the washer and the dryer cycles are in sync. All in all I love this purchase and highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this washer after my other one developed a crack in the tub and was leaking. My old wash... I bought this washer after my other one developed a crack in the tub and was leaking. My old washer was also a top loader and seven-years-old. I did a lot of research, and knew I wanted an agitator, because so many complained on reviews of machines without one the clothes don't get as clean. I also knew I wanted a large tub, preferably stainless steel, and the ability to put a lot of water in when I wanted/needed to. And, it had to be affordable. This one met my requirements including the price. I'm really happy with it. The tub is huge. There are a lot of complaints that it's too loud, so I was expecting the worst for noise, but it's much quieter than the seven-year-old washer I owned previous. Some complain it doesn't get the clothes clean without the deep wash, but I have been checking to see if my stains are gone (I do use Shout on them) and they are. My husband doesn't work in dirt or oil, but I have messy kids. I have not even needed to use the deep water feature yet, but am glad to have it. A lot complain that the spin cycle vibrates like crazy. It does vibrate, but it seems like a normal amount. It really spins the clothes quite dry, much drier than the old machine. A lot complain the clothes get twisted up. They do more so than my old washer, that is legit, but it's not bad - you just separate some of the twisted stuff before you put it in the dryer. I think it's more twisted because it spins so much/fast. I wasn't looking for a machine made in the USA, but it made me happy this one was because it definately can tout USA pride, it's a well made machine. I was also happy with the home depot delivery service/pick up old machine. I got my washer in about three days. I never really write reviews, but I'm just really happy about this.

The large wash tub is great for blankets and rugs and the automatic load size sensor is a great feature when you have to clean up after a toddler. I have 2 complaints. First I should warn it's louder than I expected. We have a basement laundry room so for us it's not a big deal but it's worth knowing. Second, when the lid is open, it hits the main selecting knob. I don't know if that will harm anything in the future but I put pads on the lid to prevent it from hitting.

Beautiful looking machine....BUT.....whatever engineer who designed the "water sensing" feature must have had a few too many beers. Because of this feature, it takes one hour to do a regular (or even small) load. The stupid machine keeps stopping to sense if there's enough water in the tub. Ridiculous! A lot of reviewers said the machine is very loud; mine seems OK to me. I wanted a machine with the "old school" agitator. There are only 3 machines that offer this; 2 are Maytags. Other brands were not recommended by my "trusted" repairman. Hopefully this should be my last washer purchase as I am old.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I hate it. Noisy, wash cycle is too long. I bought the washer and dryer set and i hate this washer. It's very noisy, it's doesn't click, it clunks!! The water sensor takes too long and the deep water setting still doesn't fill and cover the clothes. The bulky setting doesn't get the sheets clean and I have to hand wring those at the bottom. It doesn't wash away hair or dirt from mats. It just sits in the drum. I just never know if my laundry is going to be clean. The cycle take too long up to 1hr which is too long when i have 5 loads. Looking to change to a new washer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed Haven't had my washer 30 days yet & still contemplating returning it. On the easiest cycle, light soul, normal wash, 1 rinse, it still takes over an hour to wash. Not even Maytag could tell me if this is normal. And the instructions fail to mention how it can take longer to wash with different wash settings so one of my heavy loads took at least 2 hours just to wash! I was disappointed because I used to be able to do all my laundry in 1 of my 2 days off & now I'm doing laundry both days because it takes so long. Guess I figured newer technology would make things easier for us, not harder. One positive note is that it does do really good cleaning the clothes from what I've noticed. The noise is intolerable - whomever engineered this washing machine and put it out to sale must have been deaf. Unless you have a 20 room mansion DO NOT BUY IT!!! We are attempting to work out how to return it or get rid of it without incurring too much of a loss. During the wash cycle alone it sounds like grinding gears on a manual transmission automobile and takes forever to complete one load of wash. Total insanity. Maytag's telling me it's because of the Federal Government energy saving regulations? Save your energy and fix your old washer and don't buy new! The Government needs to get out of the appliance business!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor excuse for a clothes washer I bought this washer approx. 3 months ago and hate it. It does not get clothes clean. The last load of whites had a shirt with some mud stains on it. Even using bleach, it did not come out clean. This washer does not wash clothes. I simple slaps them together in a minimal amount of water. It is very noisy. The only way to get enough water in to cover the clothes is to use the fill option or babysit it by continually opening and closing the lid. So how is that conserving water and energy to heat the extra water? I wish I had purchased a used rebuilt washer that is the old style. Who came up with this new type of High Efficiency washer. Is this a Gov't mandate like toilets that don't flush? [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
