Customer Questions & Answers

Can I decide how much water to fill the tub with on each cycle. Looking for washer where I decide how much water to use

Asked by: Rittie
No, you can't change the settings once it starts, unless you cancel it. Not sure if you need to drain it. However, I got used to not looking anymore because clothes came out looking clean. Now I don't have any kids with dirty sport clothes, etc. Water barely covers clothes. Sometimes more than others. It is more like a scrub board washing with dipping into water. Water continues to pour while it is churning. Use less detergent then before. Use detergent depending on size of load unless you use power wash cycle that will give you a power type wash. Haven't used it and probably never will need it. There is a setting that will fill machine with water for majority of cycles. I like the extra rinse option that can be used with any cycle. The only time there is residue if you put too much soap in tray. I put fleece with stretch pullover shirts and and stretch pants and no lint. It hold much more than my older whirlpool and isn't so deep that I can't reach. I am 5 feet. Also these new machines tubs move completely around so you can get to far end to get wash out. Also I can washe king size quilt. Didn't break it. Has great bedding cycle that adds extra water. That is why I wanted it in first place. Old one Couldn't wash bedspreads or quilts or bad on light blankets that are king size. At 4.7 you can. Don't need anything bigger. Still fits in standard place of old one even being 1 inch deeper, but goes more to back of wall. Changed type of hose connection. You don't need any special hose. Water amount is going to be same. People think because clothes aren't always under water, there is problem with hose. Clothes aren't suppose to be underwater. Just think of women sitting at bank of river and washing clothes on scrub board or rocks. That is how it does it. If you can't stand that idea, stick to old one. I think it gets clothes deep clean. There is a gentle that has more water. It definitely saves water and it allows for more smaller washes. Everyone here has smaller washes and we don't waste the water like we did. That is why I wanted it in the first place. Water prices are higher than electric now a days.

I purchased this Maytag Washer because it has the largest capacity (4.7) of any top loading washer. Second, It has an agitator. I can now wash my over sized blankets . The machine is very good and careful at balancing (unbalanced) loads. The control panel is easy to read and use. I had purchased another top brand a few years back but it only had the impeller and I could not adjust the water level and my clothes after adding chlorine bleach would come out ruined. Consumer Reports failed to note this. I love the fact that you have the option to deep fill the machine with water. This machine is quiet, efficient and does a great job with the laundry. I highly recommend this machine to everyone. As far as I am concerned, it is the best and a super value.

Very quiet, HUGE capacity, clothes are clean. My wife uses the deep fill option everytime bc she's not used to the HE auto sensing that adds just enough water to wash, and has no faith that clothes will be clean without being submersed under a foot of water - ugh... So pretty much everything a washer is supposed to do this one does. Controls are easy and intuitive. Wash cycles vary from 50 min to about 1 hr 20 min. Clothes come out damp not soaking wet, so idk what else to say everything works fine. One word of caution that I want to reiterate that I read in a prior review - very important to extend the leveling feet to the highest position possible. The tub sinks down when loaded with water and laundry so if the bottom of the unit is too close to the floor it will make contact with the floor and cause excessive noise, or in my case melt the plastic pan we had under the unit and it would not allow the tub to spin. I included a picture of the underside of the unit - showing what happens when feet are not adjusted high enough! I assumed the delivery team would do this, but no they just set in place. FYI - They won't hook it up unless you buy new hoses. However, I'm not sure if they would have adjusted the feet up even if I had the hoses and they got it all ready to go.

The best part about this washer is that it has an agitator, so I think it really does a better job cleaning clothes. All high-efficiency washers use less water and so does this one - but it has a "deep-fill" option, which I use on every load. Since it still uses sensors, it will choose to deep fill low-med-high. I also always add an extra rinse. There are many options that I will most likely never use. There are a few things I don't like - the lid locks and you cannot add items during the cycle. The cycles are long, about an hour - but there is a 35 minute rapid wash option. It seems quiet. I've washed heavy comforters which came out great. It spins regular clothing almost dry on the normal setting. I previously had a Whirlpool Duet front loader, which I hated! My clothes did not get clean, and the washer had an awful odor. Prior to that set I had 2 Maytag washers in 35 years, so I decided to go back to Maytag. This new Maytag replaced a 30 year old no frills GE I inherited with a move. All in all I love the washer after doing at least 20 loads. (The matching dryer had a steam option, which I understand requires a water hookup, and which was I feature I did not want! I bought the Maytag Centennial dryer so it is not a matched set - I don't care!)

Maytag's policy is that they have to send a service tech out (a week later) to verify it is dead, and then order the new one (sent one week after tech visit, so two weeks with no washer). Second one arrived and used it for 3 weeks and motherboard went out on 2nd unit. Same deal, wait 1-2 weeks for tech to repair. Summary is I paid for it Nov 30 and it is now 1st week in February and we have only been able to use it for a little over a month. I have lost confidence not only in the product, but also the untimely service. I always saw commercials about the Maytag repair guy being bored, but apparently he is busy and making people wait for more than a week on multiple repairs for new units. Dryer unit takes FOREVER to dry towels.

Unit worked for 30 minutes then started making a grinding noise that could wake the dead and a smell of burning like is was something dead. After a day of phone calls I am stuck with a washer that is not working and HomeDepot is handing off to delivery service and they say it could be up to a week plus to get a new washer? HomeDepot gets my money so now I am a second class customer and get no help with getting replacement? Julie at the homedepot I purchased from is very helpful but she is not the delivery company. If this keeps going this way it will be the LAST thing I buy from Home Depot.... there are other places out there with better customer service that will do things in a much timelier manner.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Auto Low water levels We purchased this washer because of the brand name and "bells and whistles" that came with the model. However, all auto settings to fill the appropriate water levels are extremely low, producing poor quality wash. The only setting that works is the Deep Fill setting. Of note, with all the positive reviews, I'm guessing every one has checked the water levels and are adequate and my machine is defective, or they haven't checked it at all. We have put one call into Maytag wareanty, made an appt., and they failed to show.

Washes clothes very clean, fills the basket with exact amount of water needed. Soft touch keypad eliminates turning knobs to adjust settings. See through top allows observing progress of wash cycles. A slightly wider exterior dimension with reduced size agitator allows larger loads. Sensors determine what size load you have, and adjusts water volume and cycle time automatically. The spin cycle is extremely quiet. Timer alarm designed for hearing through walls and floors. Only one negative. The spin cycle seems to last too long, and compresses the clothes extremely tight, but easily overlooked when comparing the great features. Only had the washer 3 weeks and it exceeds our expectations.
