There is a broiler at the top of the oven. The space below the oven is just a drawer, not a warming drawer, for storage.

Gas stoves are faster to heat as the heat is immediate as soon as you turn on the flame. Whereas an electric stove requires some time to heat up the coils. While gas heats up very quickly, they also cool down quickly once the flame is gone, so it provides a level of safety that an electric does not. Temperature control on a gas stove is much more precise and easy to manage and maintain. Temperature changes are immediate with gas so that you can better manage the level of heat you require for cooking. Gas stoves are a little more cost effective to run. Even though they may initially cost more than an electric stove to purchase, the amount of time to recover a savings is much less. A gas stove will heat up your kitchen less than an electric range as well. With gas you don't have to worry so much about how flat the stove is sitting because as long as you have flame your food will cook in the pans. With electric the pots/pans have to have direct and even contact with the entire coil to ensure that it cooks properly and doesn't have hot and cold spots. If you ever experience a power outage at least with gas you will still be able to cook or heat up water, etc. as you aren't dependent on electricity. With the Maytag Aqualift it also offers the convection option for baking which works incredibly well for making things like fries, cookies or anything that is baked in a more shallow pan as it evenly distributes the heat all around the item being baked. Just as with the cooking, baking with gas provides a more even and precise outcome. I have had both gas and electric ranges and will never go back to using electric. I have had this particular stove for almost 2 months now and it performs well, looks great, was a great value and arrived very quickly once ordered. Highly would recommend going with a gas stove. It would be hard to provide a recommendation for this model of going with gas or electric. I would choose whichever fuel type you feel most comfortable cooking with. Thank you. Read Less

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 137 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sharp looks, expansive stove top We purchased this range to replace our old Maytag gas range, which was 12 years old. We love the expansive stove top, with the grates that cover the entire top and are on one plane. The five burners offer versatility, and plenty of output for whatever we might be cooking. The oven is larger than our last model, and I know we will use the "off-set" bottom rack for Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas roast. The extra large window allows you to easily see whatever is baking. The oven runs a little cool on regular mode and a little hot on convection mode, according to our oven thermometer, but every oven we have owned has had an "operating temperature window". Overall, we are very happy with our purchase. January 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LOVE-LOVE the convection feature This stove is very easy to understand and use. This range is great for the type of cooking I do. The convection feature is what I was originally drawn to. Very quick-even. It is also very handy when I need cooking done a little faster. The large burners really get the water boiling faster. The center burner has turned out to be a blessing that I didn't know I would really use. The large capacity oven is a godsend!! December 12, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! But really heats up the house! This stove had everything I was looking for - clean lines, large glass oven door, 5 burners, all of the bells and whistles AND it looked more expensive than it cost! My only complaint is that the burners and stove are so powerful that they really heat up my kitchen when I'm using them. But I can definitely live with it! July 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Will never buy Maytag or Whirlpool again!! Home Depot tried to assist with the service, but their hands were tied. This range has been a nightmare. Out of the last 3 months, the oven has worked for about 2 weeks. The warranty company has made no less than 6 service calls and is still unable to fix it. It takes weeks to get a tech on site, he shows up with no parts, orders some parts that arrive a week later and then the tech comes back in two weeks. When the new parts don't fix the problem the cycle repeats. The warranty company refuses to replace the stove. I will never purchase a Maytag or Whirlpool product again and advise everyone else to avoid them at all costs. October 20, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful range but.... Glass in door steamed up first use of convection feature, now i have moisture inside the glass. The new self clean feature is a wonderful technology but has to be used at least twice to clean effectively. April 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lightbulb burned out within 6 months. Igniter failed within 9 months. Looks nice, worked great for about 9 months then the igniter failed. May 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is perfect for my needs. I shopped around for the product that best suited my needs. Additionally, I want to support the American worker as much as possible. MAYTAG met and exceeded what I was looking for in a quality Large Capacity Gas Range appliance. As an added benefit I found that the oven was equipped with AQUALIFT self cleaning technology which makes cleaning a breeze. Admittedly, the AQUALIFT was a bonus feature that I had not originally considered. My kitchen is solely equipped with MAYTAG appliances. Including, Gas Range, Microwave, French Door Refrigerator and Dishwasher. I do not think you can go wrong with MAYTAG. They are the only appliances I own. December 26, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by If you like to use your oven I don't recommend this one. We bought this oven just in time for thanksgiving. I quickly realized that the temperature was off. So we followed the directions to calibrate the oven and we were able to get the temperature with in about 20 degrees. So we had a tech from maytag come out and look at the oven. He said that with this oven if you set it at 325 the oven turns on heats up to 325 then the oven burn shuts off it will cool down and then the oven burn relights heats up again. The temp will range 100 degrees up or down at all times. The problem with this poorly designed oven is that it doesn't cook things consistently. Terrible! I'm very disappointed. April 14, 2014
