Customer Questions & Answers

I have a 16 foot 75 pound gate. will the Mighty Mule Automatic Gate Opener Model # FM200 do the job? If not, why?

Asked by: Anonymous
No, it is too light and has issues with my 12 foot gate. Get the fm 350. After my issues with the fm200, I read many reviews and none have had the issues I am having after changing to a fm 350.

Can I buy two of these for dual swing gates?

The dual swing models all seem to require digging a trench and laying cable underground. Wondering if I can avoid that by using a different opener for each gate, but programming just one remote to open them both at the same time.
Asked by: gt
Thanks for the answer, but the most important part of my question was ignored. ONE opener for both gates?? As mentioned, trenching is out of the question, and none of these seem to be able to communicate wirelessly with each other. this seems odd since the remotes are wireless. But, the point of the question really was whether a single remote will work for both gates.

Does kit contain wire and how to purchase extra remotes

Asked by: raybo
You'll have to buy some wire for the battery, but it's pretty cheap. You can buy the remotes on ebay, home depot, or several other retailers. They are easy to setup as they use mini switches which you set to the same setting as your opener.

Will this keep my dogs locked in or will they be able to push it and get out?

Asked by: Karon
Karon, If your concerned your dog may want to get out of the yard after your Mighty Mule Gate Opener is installed, we recommend you add a Mighty Mule Automatic Gate Lock. The Mighty Mule Automatic Gate lock is ideal for single and dual swing gate openers. Unlocks and locks automatically as the gate is activated to open and close to provide added security for Mighty Mule automatic gate openers. Recommended for gate leafs over 8 ft. long, high wind areas or additional reinforcement against unwanted intrusion to your property.Installation of the gate lock provides secure protection to withstand up to 2500 lbs. of force, providing stability and security. Thank you,

Purchased this gate opener in April 2014 for a 150 lbs 12foot single gate. Picked up the first one from the store and installed it, closed the gate and the piston would never retract. Returned to the store and exchanged it. The second one worked as it should but it was difficult to set the limit switch. On 12/18/16 we had 30 mph North wind and when I opened the gate the plastic housing, which is one piece molded plastic that is also the post hinge broke....from the wind...30 months of gate opening for $300. In the last year the gate opener has been making loud squeaking noise when it's operating and it cannot be lubricated. Slow to open and close the gate, poor remote range.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible Software Spend the money on a better model. I installed this opener on a 10ft light chain link gate. The opener handles the gate no problem and was easy to install. However, that is all I can say good about this gate. Setting the gate closing position was nearly impossible. It constantly wanted to over close, even to the extent that it scarred the casing after opening the gate nearly 150 degrees. Solved that problem with a gate stop on the gate. Even after fixing that issue, I have had to reprogram the gate opening position three times. The gate has attempted to close even more several times instead of opening. It has been constant frustration for several weeks now!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs a redesign Suffers from design deficiencies. The closing time and obstruction sensitivities are set by best guess, and it took several attempts to set these items to my needs. Further, the motor is very slow and our 12 foot gate takes about 15 seconds to fully open. I've learned to open the gate before I even start the car but the slowness is annoying. Also, there's no release to allow the gate opening when I simply want to walk out my driveway. That act requires using our spare transmitter and partially opening the gate just to retrieve the mail. The price seems fair but given the design problems it's certainly worth no more than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mighty Mule Gate Opener this is my 3rd gate opener. Easy to install and works great

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Be prepared for some trial and error The price is right and the gate opener works as it should, so I'm not complaining. The problem I ran into is that every gate is different, and if you're retrofitting a gate that was built without thought for a gate opener, you may have a tough time getting the geometry to work out so the gate opens and closes all the way. Your goal is to get a 10 foot wide gate to open fully with a power arm that opens only about 14 inches. So it makes a big difference where you attach the shaft to the gate, and where you attach the opener to the gate post; I spent hours tinkering with the attachments at both ends. Once you get that figured out, the installation goes pretty quickly. The one-button controls, the wireless dial pad, and the solar charger all work as expected. If I had to start over, I would start with a one of the more expensive units because the 200 takes about 30 seconds to open fully.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good gate opener I got about eight years of trouble free use from this opener before the threads in the shaft gave out. They are made of plastic and will eventually wear out, but otherwise it's a great product and for today's tools and appliances, eight years isn't a bad run. Do yourself a favor, utilize the larger amperage batteries, gate will open faster and smoother with fewer overall issues. Installation may require the utilization of some washers as shims, but otherwise it's pretty simple and straightforward. Programming the gate is easy, and adding additional remotes even easier as they use the DIP switch setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was very pleased with the quality of the product and the flexibility of the hardware.  the installation instructions were clear.  I was a little concerned as I was mounting the fixed arm on a 2-1/2 inch chain link fence post, but it works fine because my gate is small.  My only puzzlement is that there is no hole or notch in the control box for the wires to/from the battery/charger, and if you wanted the gate lock, there would be  no place for those wires also.  My dremel tool fixed that in short order.  I was also puzzled at first about the transformer cube, thought it was a battery charger, but that was my mistake which I realized after reading the output info.  the output being 18 volts AC.  so, the converter to DC must be in the control box!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent opener I bought this to replace one of my 350 openers and it is working fine. Much cheaper than the 350 and much easier to setup. I vhad a 14foot field gate and it is working fine.
