Customer Questions & Answers

Does it use ball and needle bearings like the Makita?

I'm ready to "pull the trigger" on a new saw (mine was stolen recently) and I've narrowed it down to two choices: the 12 amp Milwaukee @ $99 or the 11 amp Makita @ $89. Both are quality tools but I really like the idea of the ball and needle bearing construction of the Makita. Does this Milwaukee also use the same type bearings in the reciprocating mechanism?
Asked by: ErikTheRed
I found the answer to my own question. I went to Milwaukee's website and opened the parts PDF for this model, and yes, it does indeed use ball bearings and needle bearings. I dunno, maybe all brands do, I just wanted to be sure it didn't use cheap bushings instead of bearings. I went to the local HD and bought the saw today, and I've already put it to use cutting the tops off some 4x4 posts. With the Diablo carbide blades, it cut like buttah!

Can I use this to cut small limbs? How large of a limb will it cut? What blade will I need?

Asked by: Anonymous
I've cut limbs a thick as 6+ inches. You just need to be careful. A standard wood-cutting blade works just fine. Home depot can direct you to the right blades.

Can I cut 6x6 wood posts?

I've got 15 6" x 6" wooden posts to cut. What blade do you recommend to go with this 12 amp sawzall ?
Asked by: Marslan
I would think most certainly. The key is the length of the blade (and tooth pattern/density). The better blades (Diablo) cost noticeably more in longer lengths. And they are more flexible (good and bad). So there is a limit to the reasonable length of the blade and the thickness of the material. My first cut was ductwork 6" in diameter and the blade was 9" as I remember. The reciprocating action means some of the length is taken up with the high and low position of the blade as it moves. It was a wood/metal blade for demolition and for embedded nails. Worked well. Since then I have been cutting two inch stair noses and carbonized bamboo, the thing is great, just not a "finish" cut.

Is there a cordless model?

Do I have to have a power line?
Asked by: RCCccccc
No. This was not a cordless model. I wanted something with a lot of cutting power. You will need power.

Should I get a 12 or 15 amp sawzall?

I will be starting some renovations soon and looking to get a reciprocating saw for demo - mainly cutting studs, nails, etc. I am looking at either this one (12-amp) or the Milwaukee 15-amp super sawmill (model # 6538-21). Do you think the 12-amp model will be sufficient for this job. Are there any other reasons to move up to the 15-amp model?
Asked by: eltoe
The 12 amp model cut through old 1/2" and 3/4" galvanized pipe no problem for me. I think it is more important to have the correct blade for the job than to have an overly powerful reciprocating saw. I picked up a set of 12 Milwaukee blades with a couple bonus blades thrown in that will address a number or different types of project and materials. They had some blades that were specifically meant to cut wood with nails.

12 Amp SAWZALL Reciprocating Saw with Case is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 191.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent saw Ready to use right out of the box. Tool-less chuck holds blades securely. Haven't had a blade pop out on me yet. Besides the Milwaukee reputation for reciprocating saws what sold me was the hard plastic case. As a contractor I prefer tools with cases to keep them from getting damaged in my work trucks. Previously I've always gone the "cheap" route for tools, and found a couple inexpensive off-brands that I've had no problems with but have also found out that certain tools actually save me money when I get a quality tool, in that I save time because they work better don't have issues while on a job and I don't have to keep going and buying new ones over and over again. Quality definitely has it's advantages and this Milwaukee saw is just that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good saw, replaced less expensive Ryobi Purchased Ryobi and immediately it would throw blades. Very aggravating. Took it back and bought this Milwaukee. Big difference. Milwaukee cost more but is a much better saw and not once did it throw blades. Vey pleased so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Wish Come True! We have one of these and it performs perfectly for every job we assign. Ours is five years old. Our son has been coveting it for that whole period, and the current purchase is for his hmmhmmtieth birthday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I finally bought this. Bought this because I always wanted one. When we moved I justified it because I am removing nine years of unchecked growth of a Kudzu tree. Handled it like a hot knife through butter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great saw, great deal with the new price I had been borrowing my friend's 12 amp Ryobi, which was ok but I had a tough job to do cutting some porcelain tile so I decided to buy my own. I saw the price come down on this one so I got it, along with some diamond grit blades, and it burned through the porcelain. This saw is tough and seems to have a strong motor. Definitely recommend this.

Used it only once so far to cut up a fiberglass hot tub into manageable pieces for disposal. It did the job as expected once I found the right saw blade to use. A medium toothed blade works best on thick fiberglass.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product, but... The product itself arrived in fine condition. It was intended as a christmas present for my dad, and he was absolutely thrilled with it. However I am VERY disappointed with how the product was shipped. Rather than package it in a box, the shipping label was put directly on the case that it comes in, and the product was left on my doorstep just like that. Not only does this expose the purchase to potential package thieves, but if the recipient of the gift hadn't been on vacation at the time, he would have seen it! Maybe I got unlucky with whoever packed my purchase, but if you live in a neighborhood where an expensive tool like this might be stolen I would be wary of ordering it for delivery from Home Depot. Very disappointed with that.
