I was going to buy a 15 Amp Reciprocating Saw, I wanted as much power as possible. Milwaukee make a 12, 13 and 15 Amp model, plus there are other similar models available from other manufacturers. A building contractor spoke to me while I was looking at the units for sale, he gave me this advice. "The Milwaukee 12 Amp Sawzall will suffice for any homeowner and as a contractor it is the one he buys, the reason is the larger units use more current and therefore require a more heavy duty extension cord and you always use an extension cord with this device for just about any job." I wanted to work up to 100 feet from an outlet, an extension cord of the correct size to operate a 15 Amp model cost more than the 12 Amp Sawzall. The Milwaukee 12 Amp model cuts anything, I never needed more power and with the correct cutting blade cuts through everything I tried, from wood, metal, plastic and with the 12 inch pruning blade even a 15 inch tree trunk on a 30 foot tree. To remove the stump I stuck the blade into the ground and cut through the spreading roots circling the stump, this is much safer than using a chain saw. I purchased the saw to cut through a six inch cast iron drain line, which it cut through like butter with a diamond coated blade. I had never thought about the power requirements for working over a distance from an outlet, so consider the cost of the extension cord if like me you want to work around your house and yard. The only downside for me is the case, there is not enough room in the case to store all the blades i purchased with the saw, but this is not enough of a reason not to buy.

I had some ivy trunks that were 5 inches around and I decided this wasn't going to be a fair fight for the ivy. The Milwaukee 12 amp sawzall did the trick and made short work of the ivy trunks. I used the Diablo pruning blade and it was no contest. I would recommend this saw to anyone that wants to get a big pruning job done fast and easy.

I use a reciprocating saw to cut pallets apart for pallet art and to reclaim old wood that has been nailed together. This is one stout tool. Heavy enough to do the job without beating your hands to death, but no so heavy that it's unwieldy or tiring to use. Like the quick/easy blade change feature and the durability. Expect this tool will last me for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, but.... I wanted a light saw and there are 3 worth considering around 7 pounds. I bought this one because I really liked the easy load chuck and was not disappointed. Ease of changing blades is of utmost importance, because you are hot, tired, etc and do not want to be tortured when changing a blade. I rated 4 rather than 5 because of case. I agree with another reviewer that case is too small to hold blades and the design of the case pinches the cord as it comes out of the tool. This will shorten the life of the power cord. All it would take is another inch of height and the case would acomidate blades and not pinch the cord.

I've cut through a three piece oil boiler and a small car not to mention small trees. There is just something different when you use tools that are higher quality. The way it cuts, the way it feels in your hands (very balance with little vibration).

It's OK for cutting nails to dismantle something, but is really lousy at cutting beams. I can cut through a wooden beam faster by drilling a series of holes than I can with the Sawzall with a new blade.
