Answer:
Cuts through wood a lot faster due to the removal of the sawdust as the blade moves in an orbital motion. If the saw has duel setting (orbital and straight) use the straight motion for cutting metals.

There is a switch on the top of the saw that allows the user to change between orbital cutting mode and straight cutting mode. Orbital action moves the blade upwards on the forward stroke and downwards on the back stroke; this motion provides a faster, more aggressive cut in wood materials. When cutting metal, a straight back and forth blade motion is preferred to extend blade life and to help start a Read More

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 35 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Smooth & powerful cutting ability, this saw tackles tough jobs with ease. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Great Item! Easily cut out all of the Bald Cyprus roots/nuckles in the lawn without any hesitation or hiccups. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool! Very powerful and great control with the orbital control. The tool is a little heavy but the power makes up for it as lighter tools in the same class are less powerful. The blade release is textured with nubs on the sides and on the forward edge of the collar so you don't have to have the blade plunger in the forward position in order to change blades. The orbital control is a slider for dialing in variable amounts of orbital action for different applications and that is my favorite part. I typically go for a more refined tool than just for power and this has plenty of power and as much refinement as you could ask for in a reciprocating saw. Being able to easily adjust how far the shoe extends is another big plus, especially when cutting metals because it allows you to use several different areas of the blade as the cutting edges dull. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Saw! Excellent and very versatile saw. Very powerful and easy to change blades. Super Saw! May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Sawzall! Bought this saw to replace a Craftsman unit that literally "blew up" in my hands. I have a number of Milwaukee hand tools now and have no conplaints. Circular saw, drill driver, impact driver and palm sanders... all good quality! February 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This things a beast Bought and used it this weekend to cut down several Palms, and Pepper Trees. Went thru the Palms like butter, and went underground to cut the roots out like a badger going down a hole. Impressive. Next up, cut thru many, many Pepper Tree trunks and branches. These trees are hard wood, and again it had no problem attacking them. Very powerful. The only issue I had, was I wish I'd bought this years ago!! November 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I hate Sawzalls I have spent 1/2 of my adult life doing construction work, in particular carpentry. I hate sawzalls & cat paws. Both are used in demolition or to fix mistakes. If I have to use this tool then I am glad to finally have a good one. It is so much better than my 20 year old Makita (which I gave to my son-in-law as it still is operational). Changing blades could not be easier. The variable speed is controllable, it makes using my least favorite tool a lot better. October 6, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Blade doesn't lock I bought this thing today and when I got home, I found out that the blade lock was installed backwards! That's right, when I look down into the blade lock, I can see when I twist it the pin that holds the hole in the blade move across, but when I release, it retracts which is the OPPOSITE of what it's supposed to do to hold the blade. I'm going to try one more, but if this is the quality I can expect, then I'm abandoning the Milwaukee brand forever. August 24, 2015
