I can see why so many of these shelves arrive damaged; it wasn't well-protected in its box nor sturdy in construction. Luckily, my 48" espresso shelf was fine (although it basically looks black in most lights).
The 40" mounting rail was straight and easy to get level on the wall. Two of the pre-drilled holes happened to line up with my studs; I drilled another to catch a 3rd stud. The mounting rail only projects off the wall <1.5inches which explains the comments about questionable stability and the challenge of getting the shelf to be level front to back.
The shelf comes with 3 "pre-drilled" holes on top to screw the shelf onto the mounting rail. For this part, I chose to use longer screws, driven at an angle towards the wall, and starting a little farther away from the wall than the pre-drilled holes. I kept an eye on my level as I attached the shelf.
It's solid enough for my purposes, and I'm grateful to have found such a shelf within my budget.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cjv9304 Very cheap( price and made)... but you can work with it.
The shelf was an ONLINE item only. It arrived and was damaged, but not the the point to where I wanted to return it to the store and wait for another to arrive. The shelf itself is make of VERY THIN compressed wood and a portion of it was bent (thats how flimsy it was). I read the review before buying and knew this was going to take some TLC to make work. We did NOT use the hardware that came with it, but purchased some quality screws instead. We were able to hit a couple studs for stability, but without that, I am not sure it would have held much weight. I am still kinda waiting for it to fall, but so far so good. So it's up and holding a couple items with some weight to them. I think it looks nice- as long as no one touches it, we should be good. :) For the $34 price tag for a 48" shelf, I'd says it's worth what you pay for.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jimmy Very nice - but not exactly what I was expecting.
Our first order arrived with one (1) shelf having a corner dinged and Home Depot refunded it without question.
After reading all the reviews I'll agree the shelves are manufactured from a cheaper grade material, however the shelves are not very expensive. For a modest $35.00 investment - I'm quite happy with them holding picture frames and little knickknacks.
I am not confident the shelves could hold 90 lbs and i'm not willing to attempt to check the claim either so i won't be putting anything too heavy on the shelves.
On a good note, i've never installed shelves or floating shelves before and followed some video guidance from youtube and have no issues with the shelves leaning or falling off the wall.
Aesthetically, they look great and seem to hold very well considering they're not bearing much weight. I would recommend the product but warn of the weight put on the shelf and to make sure you anchor it well to the wall.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dan1313 Slightly Disappointed
I ordered 2 shelves. They were shipped in a timely manner. However when I received them one had a pencil thickness, 1 inch long, chunk missing out of one of the front corners of the shelf. The other had an inch long crack that was packed with white packing material which highlighted the crack and could not be moved. In addition, two of the screws used to bolt the shelf to the wall mounts were screwed into the thin side of the shelf from the inside rather than in the plastic packaging with the others. I feared they may cause another crack if removed. So I returned both to my local store and will not be purchasing another set.

I bought the 24 inch and 48 inch. The instructions for installation for both were pretty decent but it's unfortunate that the pre-drilled holes don't line up with standard studs. I drilled new holes in my 48 inch and used anchors for the smaller shelf. I will also probably add a bracket under the larger shelf (but I'm hoping to store some things heavier than a photo frame). They arrived in great condition though and are very pretty shelves.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LittleDIY Easy floating shelves
After reading previous reviews the advice suggesting use of toggle bolts (on package) very helpful. Used 3 (three) 1/8 x 2 bolts on a 48" shelf. If I were to put more than 40 pounds on shelf would use more toggle bolts even though bolt package states they will hold 90 lbs (each?). Must install toggle bolt on frame before attaching to wall. A bit more laborious, but works great ... installed into drywall as there were no studs in places where needed. Nice and snug. Holding nicely. Installed over bed ... so if not interrupted during a nice dream I would recommend this shelf for average use. C'mon don't try to put a set of encyclopedias on the shelf. Looks very nice.
