I think there is a space between the molded shower stall and the actual bathroom wall as it has some very minor flex in the molded shower stall wall.

Answer:
Hi Floridaretired,
Your fiberglass enclosure is most likely attached directly to the studs, with the remaining space open. Thus the grab bar must be attached only to the studs to be secure.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 134 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Example of Skilled German Engineering The customer reviews that are negative are because they did not prepare the surface properly. (1) Use a Scotchbrite sponge with some Barkeepers' Friend of other type of cleanser. Scrub the surface thoroughly and then dry it. (2) Use a piece of 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper and rub the tile surface where the bars will be attached, and then wipe away any dust. (3) Clean surface thoroughly with acetone (better than rubbing alcohol) and then dry surface. The install process is a piece of cake if you read the instructions and watch the YouTube video. These bars are sold to Home Depot by Innovative Product Sales (out of NC) 800-961-5804. Call extension 101 and talk with Ken. Again the secret to a successful install is surface prep. October 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great purchase ! The installation was , without a doubt, the easiest thing about updating our bathroom. Great German engineering on a good looking bath bar that was So easy to install. Been using it for a month now, and no problems whatsoever. Love the guarantee even with DIY installation. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Installation instructions were clear and easy to follow; product mounting process went smoothly without any problem. I mounted two bars on ceramic tiles in a stall shower, one horizontal and one at 45 degrees. The most difficult part of the process was peeling the protective paper off the adhesive mounting plates. One tip I'd suggest for mounting on ceramic tile is to mark the selected tiles after cleaning, I put a piece of masking tape on each tile to insure placing the bar mounts on a cleaned tile surface. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very functional Easy to install and serviceable so far. I have had it in use for 2 weeks. I wish it was in white or at least chrome since it looks functional but could fit my shower decore better. September 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking Grab Bar True to its advertisement, the installation is easy and straightforward. The instruction is easy to follow, plus the video put out by Draad is helpful as well. At first, I thought the price may be a bit high. But after considering the need and cost of hiring a contractor if this is a screw mount item that needs drilling into tiles, the price is justified. One consideration though, if you have small tiles in your shower / bathroom wall and the sticking surface consists of grout lines, then you may consult with Draad first before buying this item. Draad does not say whether its products would work on surfaces that have grout lines or not. April 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great shower grip This grip was easy to install, you have to use another shower for a day or so, but afterwards the grip looks like it was part of the shower from the beginning. It didn't require drilling so it didn't harm the surface of the shower. Great product and helps for support in the shower! October 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Satisfied with no drill bars The two bars went up easily. After reading a couple reviews, I carefully followed the cleaning procedures with light sanding with very fine sandpaper, and cleaned with acetone as well as the wipes. They've been up two weeks now. One horizontal and one at 45angle and support me at 200 lbs (No I didn't do a pull-up like the advertisement video!) October 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by disappointed in product. the bar was installed as specified. we then had a cleaning crew clean the bathroom. they apparently used a strong cleaner and bleach IN THE SHOWER. the next day the bar fell off during my shower. the adhesive looked like dry cottage cheese. no more of this for me. I drilled the tile and reinstalled the grab bars. I believe the bleach caused the item to fail. September 20, 2016
