Customer Questions & Answers

How long from start to finish does it take to make the ice cream with this unit?

Asked by: Dianne
Making the custard takes about 45 mins, then the cooling process takes about 1 to 2 hrs, depending on what kind of container you cool it in. Then the churning takes about 30 to 40 min. All well worth it.

do you have to make all 4 quarts? and how big is the bag of ice?

The pdf says to expect to use 1-2 medium bags of ice, but doesn't specify what would be 'medium'. Also do you have to make all 4 quarts or can it be used to make smaller amounts?
Asked by: Nyan
NO Do not do this mistake as ice cream will expand during wiping. The 4 quart will make maximum 2 quarts of liquid, once is wiped will produce almost 4 quart of ice cream. As every thing in liquid will expand when is cooled, so always use as 50% rule. To male 1 quart of ice cream you must whip 1/2 quart

Excellent making Ice cream, When making ice-cream put the ice cream liquid inside the freezer and wait until the temperature drop to 36F, Remove from freezer stir the liquid to brake any ice formation and crutch your cream. In minutes you will have excellent ice-cream. As long as your ice temperature in below 15F Must be careful when making sorbet as the motor is little soft to crutch the ice. This can be resolve by removing the sorbet and putting in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Best when water is between 6F and 10F yes is cold water but this is very easy achieved by adding salt to the water

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ice Cream For All Of Us Kids! The Nostalgia Electric 4-quart Ice Cream Maker is a wonderful device for making a full gallon of home-made ice cream. Although I bought it to give as a gift, I opted to get another item and keep this one for my wife and me. Ice cream again in an 'empty nest' is a treat. To tell you the truth, it is hard to define why we stopped making home-made vanilla, chocolate, and my personal fave, butter pecan. Considering the reasonable cost, and the sturdy construction of Nostalgia Electrics 4-quart Ice Cream Maker, even old folks like us can be kids again...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ice Cream Maker I have already used this 3 times and have been very happy with the results. For the money, this is a good value. We wanted a smaller one that was easy to transport and this one is perfect. Would recommend! It shipped in less than a week which was great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Know how to use it !! I recently got into ice cream making and wanted not too expensive ice cream machine. And I got it for $20 from Home Depot. My first attempt was disaster. Reasons I found : canister was should in freezer for atleast 8 hrs. You need rock salt I used the one for snow melting. ice cream mix should be cold , I kept it for atleast a day in refrigerator. Voila my second attempt was super success !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect For Us I've been shopping for an ice cream maker for the year and was thrilled to see this at such a great price! For our family of 8, we seem to go through a lot of ice cream and we're trying to eat a LOT healthier so to be able to make our own frozen yogurts and sorbets and ice creams, it allows us to cut back on the sugar a little more and put in more of the stuff we love! Our only suggestion is to NOT store the ice cream in the metal canister, as we found the ice cream takes on a different flavor as the days go on. After making your ice cream, store it in a different type of container in the freezer for future consumption!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use I've never had an ice cream maker before, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but this seemed to work pretty slick. I bought a second one as a wedding gift for my sister and we both used them. The large canister worked nicely, and the ice cream and frozen yogurt made turned out well. Can't speak to the recipes included in the instruction booklet, but we didn't have issues with recipes not included. It was a nice buy, and now we know exactly what is going into our frozen treat(s).
