Reason the nailer intermittently does not fire?

I just got the gun. I find that it will not fire about half the time. I get a poof of air around the trigger sometimes when I pull the trigger but no nail is fired. Other times no poof but nothing when the trigger is pulled no nail is fired. Aggravating at the every least. I am holding the gun the same as when it fires. Everything else is very satisfactory. Plenty of nails, pressure.

Thanks for your answer! Now I've got another....One of the problems with this wood stock is the level of moisture in it green. If I nail it without drying, would 18 ga work better?

Answer:
I would consider 16 gauge as a minimum for thinner slats. Go to 15 gauge fot thicker slats.

Answer:
The larger the nail, the better, because the head on the larger nail is larger, giving more holding power. One thing to be careful about with Cedar is the acidity in the wood itself can be detrimental to certain types of nails. Use the stainless steel nails. The galvanized nails will eventually leave those ugly rust streak marks that propagate downward from the nailhead.

Product was the lowest cost of all the 16-Gauge nailers (even lower cost than Harbor Freight) considered. Warranty and return policy and my experience with Home Depot gave me enough assurance to buy. Online purchase only but was delivered in 3 days. I am a home owned need this for occasional jobs. First job was to nail Hardie Board (cement 3/4in) trim around windows. Plenty of power, nails 11/2 in no problem. Purchased galvanized nails at both Home Depot and Lowes. Nailer worked well with both brands. No misfires yet. Driven several hundred nails, 2 inch and 1 1/2 inch, no problems. I would recommend to a friend. It is easy to oil (supplied with nailer) before every use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Deal / Best Value Ok so this works great the price cant be beat and its over all quality is great heres the drawbacks its only uses 16 gauge strip nails and it seems to leave a somewhat larger hole when driving the head beneath the surface I recommend only driving the head flush with the wood, Its Solid I dont think it will break it does one thing really well.

Air was emitting near the trigger and upon reviewing the manual for this occurrence, it said "Replace the O-rings." Was an insult to my intelligence. I guess a low price for such a tool was too good to be true with regard to quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I’m a professional DIY’er, always working on something. I bought both the framing gun and the brad nailer about 1 yr. ago. I can say nothing but good about both. I have used the framing gun about 30 to 40 hours and the brad nailer on a regular basis (weekly). They are both easy to use. Nails are common and readily available anywhere I have shopped. They are easy to load and have yet to have had a misfire. But the best part is the value, you can’t buy a better one for the money. When I bought mine there were only about 15 reviews, but those who had purchased them sounded legit. I bought based on those reviews and I am glad I did. Buy one and see for yourself
