The home I moved into in March 2016 was built in the mid-40's and then divided into a duplex sometimes in 2008 after Hurricane Ike. When the owner was doing the make over, he removed the innards of the stove hood and just left the outside metal of the hood for aesthesis. As you know, summer in the south can be brutal with temps reaching upwards of 110 degrees... combine those temps with cooking in a house that isn't exhausted and no one wants to live there. I did research across the internet trying to find a way to replace the hood economically and also have a piece of equipment that would work. Finally, I came up with the idea of placing finished plywood in the bottom of the hood, cutting out an exhaust space and installing a power pak. The Nutone Power Pack for a Range Hood was idea in all counts: it had great reviews, would be easy to install and the price was affordable. I proceeded with my plan, although I had to buy and learn to use a skill saw to cut the hole in the plywood. I ordered the Power Pack online and it arrived without delay quickly. The Power Pack was easy to install and only required a plug in cord as an additional buy to connect it to an electric outlet. Once the wood was cut and painted and put into place, the power pack took all of 15 minutes to install. It works wonderfully. I did add an additional light to the set up as I like bright lights where I am cooking. As a senior female with no to somewhat DIY skills, I found the power pack to be just what I needed to keep on cooking.

Didn't want to spend a fortune on a hood replacement. This fit perfectly in the built in surround. Works like a charm and was easy to install.

The exhaust fan was easy to install and fit the liner just as it stated it would. It has a nice light source and 2 fan speeds. It is a little noisy on the high setting but does a great job exhausting smoke and cooking smells out of the house. It connected nicely to my existing electrical supply and I had a new kitchen exhaust fan (and liner) for less than $200.

I had a real tough situation where I needed a free hanging stove vent and not a big budget. This unit filled the bill pretty darned well. I built my own ceiling housing and used this unit. I gave it one star off because of the lighting requirement (odd dual candelabras) and the odd pipe size (7") that was a little tough to hook up to my more common 5" pipe. I'd recommend this for anybody who's crafty and on a budget. The only other type of unit like this is hundreds more.

The power pack is not very quiet in the high speed setting and the filter is cheap. It was easy to install and is priced very low compared to other brands. If you want a fairly good unit with all of the basic functions without investing a lot of money, then I would recommend this product.
