As a vacuum, this little unit is amazing. Being an Oreck, I expected more attention to detail, though. While it does an excellent job on my rugs, most people prefer a power brush for that. This unit doesn't include one. You can buy a small upholstery power brush attachment for $50 from Oreck's website, but that is too small for rugs.
The suction is very powerful, even lifting my rug up a little when I vacuum, so I think it's doing a great job even without the beater brush. I could hear it picking up a lot of dirt the old vacuum left behind and that one had a beater brush.
Also, this unit is small and light, intended to be carried over the shoulder. Both strap connectors broke my second time using this. The thing is so light, that's just ridiculous. I Mickey-Moused my own strap from an old computer carrying bag, but that defect was unacceptable in my eyes.
Still, the vacuum works so well, I'm keeping it. I recommend reinforcing the straps by sewing extra stitching at both ends of the strap connector before you use this because many people have complained about the same problem. Exchanging the unit will just give you new straps that will break again.
This is most comfortable worn on the shoulder across the chest, like a courier bag. Otherwise, it tends to swing around and hit things around you. It does not have wheels, so you must carry it or set it down on a table while you vacuum.
Since I'm 5'10" tall, the adjustable wand is short for me, even when fully extended. I wonder if Oreck think's we're all 5'2 with eyes of blue?
Because it's a small unit, the bags that come with it (2 included) are very small. Not really a negative... what would you expect in a small cleaner?
- easy foot switch on floor brush to switch to rugs.
- exterior attachment caddy lets you carry tools on board in the open. No more reaching down, opening a compartment, etc. You just grab and keep going. Be sure to attach them firmly or you'll be dropping them left and right while you clean.
- long cord lets me get 80 percent of my downstairs space without moving to another outlet.
- can be used as a blower with attachment on the output side. use crevice brush to blow dust from your computer keyboard, etc.
- even with the short wand, it's easy to reach cobwebs and ceiling moldings because the unit is on your shoulder, not the floor.
- store it almost anywhere - I have very limited closet space and this thing fits in a kitchen cabinet. I love that!
- fast and easy cleaning because it's so portable.
In the end, I feel about this vacuum the way I feel about my kids. It's not perfect, but I love it and wouldn't give it up for the world!

Owned the vacuum one week and the pole handle cracked where it inserts into the hose. It was good on hardwood floors but laborious on carpet. The suction attachment for bare floors is very small and makes you work longer. Suction was adequate but nothing to brag about. The handle strap used to shoulder carry the unit from room to room kept falling off. I didn't dare carry it that way lest it fall and damage the hardwood. It is designed to be a quick answer to hardwood floors which is what we wanted but I can't keep it because the plastic hose broke to quickly. Sorry Oreck.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by April Do not order at this time
I wanted this the Oreck XL because of its rating and friends recomendation. I ordered it and it came with one of the links for the shoulder strap missing. I had no problem returning it to the Home Depot store, but it is an online product, so I had to reorder it on line. I reordered, this one also came with the link for one of the shoulder strap missing. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a key chain link so the shoulder strap could be connected to the back side of to my Oreck XL. Home Depot is my number one place to go for what I need, but I am thinking I am not the only one to return this item. It is $20.00 less than what I found on line and if you have a hardware store near you for a couple of dollars you can make it work.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Christopher I actually enjoy vacuuming with this thing!
I'm not a Mr. Clean. This vacuum makes me feel like I'm not wasting time doing a so-so job. The attachements and their availability on the caddy allow me to keep moving on the job and remove dirt and dust thoroughly and quickly. It is easy to carry on the shoulder strap as I move through the house, and I am able to get into tight corners and under furniture better than any vacuum I have used before.
It arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered it, which was almost scary. Easy to unpack and clear instructions. Would that all products and service were like this.

The commercial canister vacuum is exacrly what I was looking for, to get in small places. The suction is very strong for a canister. It came with all the attachments I need. It is light enough to carry from room to room. The strap that came with it helps to leave your hands free to handle the attachments
