Customer Questions & Answers

How do you set up the two test tubes in your home

Asked by: Mary
According to the EPA you need to set up the two detectors 3 feet away from an outside wall and approximately 3 feet up in the air on a level table 6 inches apart from each other

What is the address to send the sample? I don't have an envelope.

Asked by: ki
It was all on the instruction sheet that I followed and submitted with the samples. Obviously they got it as I got a report saying it was run too late.

What is Radon, how harmful is it and how can I tell if I have it in my home? If I have it how do I get rid of it?

Asked by: Lillbmac
Radon gas is an invisible, odorless and radioactive gas caused by decaying uranium deposits underneath the foundation of your home. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer next to cigarette smoking. The only way to know if you have high levels is to test. If the test results indicate that your levels are high you may hire a radon mitigation specialist to remove it from your home

Asked by: harley06
You test results will indicate the radon gas levels in your home. This will help you determine whether you need to take any necessary actions to eliminate or reduce the levels by mitigating

PRO-LAB Radon Gas Test Kit is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Insanely inaccurate result Simple to use and relatively inexpensive, but really poor experience all around. - Took well over the time indicated on the package to get back results - Results came in at over 9000 bq/sq.m, which is insanely high (200 is the max recommended "safe" level in Canada). - Ended up buying a more expensive digital detector. Test in the same conditions resulted in under 50 bq/sq.m. - Without any interaction with the lab, aside from the email with results, I had little confidence in the quality of this product or of the abilities of the lab. - Would not recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast results, no issues We purchsed this and followed the provided instructions. We got a confirmation email when they received the sample and results about 5 days later. Our results were well above the EPA standard so we had a mitigation system installed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for peace of mind Saw this Radon Test test kit when I walking through Home Depot and decided to purchase because I've heard about the dangers of radon and cancer. I opened the test kit and found the directions were very easy to follow and doing the test itself was very easy. I filled out the paperwork and mailed with my check in the envelope provided. I was very surprised when three days later I received an email that the laboratory had already received my test. Just 2 days later another email came with my results....WOW-such quick service and I am happy to results were within epa standards!!!! Would definetely recommend this test kit

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money and time - Lab did not analyse results Bought the test kit and started running the test the same day. Sent the test in the same day it finished via mail per the instructions. Lab claims they didn't receive it for 21 days and didn't analyse the kit. I guess its theoretically possible that the mail service took 21 days to deliver a package in the same city. But I don't believe it. Seems like a scam. Complete waste of money. DO NOT BUY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The imortance of this test I happened to come across an article on the dangers of radon in North American homes. Having small children it concerned me so for a few bucks I picked up this kit . Pretty convenient as you just follow the instructions and send it in. After I got the results and they were positive. I called Pro Lab up where they do the testing and they were more than helpful explaining every detail. The problem has since been fixed, retested and negative results returned. Supper painless and efficient. Considering the harm that could have come to my family I'm glad this product works.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The negative reviews are not exaggerated I read all the reviews talking about the results not being read in time after purchasing this product. They had an optional "Express Service" where you overnight the test vials and results will be available within 2 business days. It was an extra $60, and I paid it and used UPS to overnight delivery it. Checked my UPS tracking and it was delivered next day. 4 DAYS LATER I CALL AND THEY SAID THEY JUST GOT IT YESTERDAY. I guess they do not realize you can track a delivery. And since it is a Friday, of course it will be Tuesday of the next week before I might get my results. How do you stay in business with this lack of quality control? They were the only Radon test available at Home Depot. Take the time to find another brand elsewhere if they are your only option.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Communications mishap, but otherwise fine overall Bought the kit and the setup was straightforward. It's two vials you open and place in your basement elevated above the floor for four days, away from drafts and traffic. You record your start and end times/dates, close the vials, and ship prepaid envelope with the filled form. Note though there is an additional 30$ fee for the actual lab testing/results you can pay by cheque or credit card. Communications could have been clearer. They will send results via email and not via regular mail. In addition, they emailed my results to the wrong email address. I knew this because I waited six weeks until I finally gave them a call. They corrected it quickly and resent the results right away to my email address. Had I followed up sooner or they sent it to the right address, the lead time would have been a reasonable two weeks from the time I mailed the vials. Besides this hiccup and the additional lab fee, I recommend this important test be done in your home for added peace of mind.
