A:  Melina, thank you for your inquiry. The manual recommends: MAINTENANCE When should I replace the filter cartridges? The Pentair PSF-1C-P Shower Filter should be replaced every six (6) months to ensure peak performance. If you use the filter more than twice each day, take showers longer than 10 minutes or your city uses surface (lake or river) water, it is recommended that the filter be changed more frequently. Surface water typically has higher levels of sediment and chlorine and will exhaust the filter media more rapidly. For replacement filters, please visit pentair.com/homewater.           A:  Tam, the PSF-1 Premium Shower Filter is not designed to soften water. It filters chlorine and chloramine from the water, which are damaging to skin and hair.                 Filters water great but leaks
                Seems to leak no matter what we do. The filter works great and we are very pleased with the quality of water. However we have tried both shower heads and got new filter set ups and no matter what we do they always leak. Very frustrating to just be wasting that filtered water. Customer service replaced our first one because it was clearly cracked but every one leaks at the same spot and it's a spot that comes connected so it's not a fault in the installer just a major fault in the product.

                Well Built, Good Feeling Shower
                Well Built, Good Feeling Shower I read other reviews about this reducing the waters hardness so I wanted to try this filter. I could only find that it reduces chlorine and by doing that makes your skin softer. I can't find anything that says the filter removes hardness. Its looks like it's really for reducing chlorine in the water and other contaminates like scale and small particles. I tested the hardness to see if it did reduce it but it doesn't (see attached photo). But it does seem to remove that sulfur smell when we first turn on the shower. This unit is very well build and has a nice water saving shower head that has a selection from 2.0 gallons per minute or 2.5 gallons per minute. The filter unit is super easy to install. The instructions say to use the included plumbers tape on the threads but it has a nice rubber gasket so I didn’t use the tape. Just get it hand tight so there are no leaks and you're good to go. As far as how the shower feels, it's great, gives a crisp stream of water that feels like more than 2.5 gallons per minute. The shower head does not have the rubber tips on the shower head that makes cleaning hard water deposits easy. Time will tell if this clogs or not and how easy it is to clean out the hard water scale on the shower head. This filter can also be used with most other shower heads or shower wands . Overall it’s a nice unit that gives a great shower and it's easy to install.

                Like how it mounts upside down.
                We just remodeled our bathroom and had another brand in there before. The other brand kind of got in the way with the showerhead and hose. We found this one and likes how it mounts differently and doesn't get in the way of anything. It looks much nicer.

                  Disappointing shower head
                  My search for a shower head filter began due to exessive yellowing of my white hair. Since I am currently renting (an older home), a whole house conditioning system is out of the question. It's too early to tell if the filter will help further yellowing, but i do notice better lathering and a silkier feeling to hair and skin. My only complaint is the shower head and water flow. While stated that this filter does not restrict water flow, this has proven to be false for me. I also prefer a different stream pattern, and would enjoy this product more if i could replace the shower head with one of my own choosing.
