How many 32 w bulbs can I safely run on a 15 amp breaker?

Asked by: Jindal
15 Amp X 120 Volts = 1800 watts 1800 / 32 = 56 (.25) Assuming 4 lamps per fixture 14 fixtures. Best to have 10% under rated capacity, or 12 fixtures.

Have older fluoresent 4 tube light fixture --- If i upgrade ballast to Phillips model# 498410 & replace bulbs with the T8 32-watt daylight deluxe will

this work well? Have 6 fixtures to work with.
Asked by: Vic106
this works , also check the bulb holders for cracks or damage - they are replaceable and Homedepot does sell most type. You may want to consider upgrading to LED many electric companies have programs that will pick up some of the cost , I just had my Synagogue done and the power company paid 80% of the project - Now that is cool.

Customer Reviews

4 ft. T8 32-Watt Daylight Deluxe (6500K) ALTO Linear Fluorescent Light Bulb (10-Pack) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Daylighting Good I have installed these in my shop and am very satisfied. I chose this bulb due to the high color temperature. Downside is that they are more expensive than other choices. After approximately 6 months, I have not had any problems. The previous post indicated that they might burn out fast. I had this problem with a different flourescent tube bulb, but only after I had put it on a motion sensor. I discovered that the life of flourescent bulb was greatly shortened by frequent cycling of the ight on and off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bulbs, but make sure you use proper T8 fixtures/ballast for these bulbs I really like these bulbs and have had excellent life from them, with great color. It's like I'm working in a new shop. I'm guessing the reviewers who have had very short lifespans with these bulbs are using them in old T12 fixtures with T12 magnetic ballast. If you do these bulbs will light, but you will significantly shorten the bulb and ballast life as well as chew up more energy. The bulbs may fit in old T12 fixtures, but don't use them like that. These bulbs are to only be used in the fixtures they were designed for, T8 fixtures with T8 ballast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Application This 10-pack was exactly what I needed to complete the shop lighting project for my small barn. I was installing 5 overhead shop lights requiring 2 bulbs per fixture and decided that instead of using standard light level tubes I would like a brighter light as the interior has 288 square feet on the ground floor and a loft area of 190 square feet. These bulbs definitely did the job well and at a price point that was very reasonable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Six years and still going strong I have 10 fixtures with 20 of these bulbs in my shop that have been there since I installed them six years ago and they're still as bright as ever. For those of you with longevity issues, here are a few tips. 1) Cycling kills them faster than leaving them on. If they are in a room you frequent (in and out several times an hour), leave them on. They don't use that much power. DON'T put them on motion sensors! 2) This one from an electrician friend of mine: when you install a fluorescent bulb of any type, turn it on, put masking tape over the switch, and leave it there for a minimum four-hour burn-in (the tape prevents turning it off out of habit). I was having issues with CFLs burning out in under a year and after proper burn-in they're still going three years later (I write installation dates on them). This works for tube bulbs as well. The T12s in my kitchen last twice as long since I started burning them in. 3) As mentioned by others, put T8 bulbs in T8 fixtures. Although they may work in others they will burn out sooner. I hope this helps!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Instant start Easy to install and smaller and more energy efficient than older T12

Rated 3 out of 5 by from quality not the greatest Bought multiple cases of these T8 bulbs for my new shop. Phosphorus coating inconsistent and missing in places on some bulbs. 3 of the bulbs were dead out of the box and 1 more died after several hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fluorescent Bulb, Too bad my local Home Depot no longer carrys these. This is a high quality bright fluorscent bulb. It is hard to find a bright daylight bulb in a multi-pack. The quality is high, and the lights achieve full brightness in a short time, even when it is cold. I have several lights in my new garage that I used these bulbs in, and I am very pleased with the results. .......... With that being said, I don't understand why Home Depot no longer carrys these in my local store. The 1st 2 cases of 10 I bought in my local store. The last case of 10 I had to order online. I don't know what Home Depots logic is, or if there is any logic to this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Short life After going through two boxes(10 ea) I've stopped using Phillips Fluorescent bulbs. They failed repeatedly after only a few months. After switching to Sylvania Fluorescent bulbs from Lowes I have not had one over a year.
