The package may be 7.4 inches tall, the product is not. The Phillips web site (http://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/046677405854/energy-saver-twister/specifications) says the bulb is 4 inches tall by 2 inches wide and this matches my recollection.

It is taller than a regular bulb, but not as much as 7.4 inches. I was worried about the height too, but we are using this inside an outdoor fixture, and it fits fine.

Answer:
The complete unit is about 7 1/2 inches long, including the screw-in base. The CFL will fit in a fixture that takes a conventional bulb. The Dusk to Dawn is slightly larger, but more compact than using a screw-in photosensor and then adding an incandescent, CFL or LED bulb.

Answer:
Hello needhelp14,
The base of the light rotates to allow you to easily position the sensor. When I say the base I mean the actual silver base of the bulb can rotate independently of the sensor base. I've included a link showing the portion I'm speaking of. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Answer:
Probably not. The motion sensor would only allow current to flow when it sensed motion. The light would come briefly then go off it sensed light. If it was dark it would blink several times before staying on and by then the motion sensor might turn off anyway. I think most motion detecting lights ha ve light sensors anyway because the typically don't come on in daylight.

I recently moved into a new home that doesn't have much street light access at my front door. By the time I get home in the evenings it's dark and I refused to leave my light on 12+ hours or more a day. Inquiring around I was referred to purchase this specific bulb. I'm so happy I did, it gives me a peace of mind knowing when I arrive home the light is already on and I don't have to hassle with my cell phone being my flashlight. I've had it for a few weeks now and have not had any problems. I highly recommend purchasing this bulb if you're in the need of feeling safe when you come home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, bright, adds safety and security! We have added adapters in our outside light fixtures, but one was inclosed and upright and we could not find an adapter that would work. We reluctantly tried this light bulb with built in sensor due to price and past failed attempts with other products and are very pleased with it. The light turns on and off as expected. We don't have to worry about turning a light on/off before we leave or coming home in the dark! A little costly, hoping it will last several months, but well worth the peace of mind and added security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE THESE!! I was planning on spending a lot of money on outside lighting that was dusk to dawn. Then an employee saw me looking at light bulbs and she told me about these! OMG. They saved me not only a lot of money but a lot if time as I didn't have to buy new fixtures just the light bulbs and they work great, even in my covered patio. No more turning on and off light switches (or forgetting to) just leave the switch on and the bulb does the rest. I love these bulbs!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't shut off This bulb never shut off during the daytime. I tried untwisting it and putting it in at different start points. I even cleaned off the lamp glass panels thinking it may be blocking the dawn to dusk sensor from working. It never turned off on its own. Finally I returned it and bought another one at Home Depot. The new one has worked perfectly. I guess the original one was defective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great energy saver This light bulb goes on automatically at dusk and shuts off at dawn. It costs under $2 to run per year and is well worth the initial price to have a light on when we come home in the dark. It also gives us peace of mind to have one or more exterior lights on all night. Also, the manufacturer claims it lasts approximately 7 years.
Date published: 2016-08-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job as advertised While the dusk/dawn control is reliable, I can't say the same for longevity. I'm on my 4th bulb in my driveway post in 2 years. I use another indoors in an enclosed extension room & it lasts a little longer. However, the one at the front door is well over a year old & still going strong.
Date published: 2016-09-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied with this purchase Since dusk to dawn outdoor lights fixtures are no longer available this is the best solution. The bulbs works exactly as they are suppose to. Just purchased, so not sure how long they last. So far, I would definitely recommend.
Date published: 2016-09-20
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dusk to Dawn Lamp This lamp made dusk to dawn easy. I just screwed it into my exterior fixture and turned the inside switch on. At dusk the lamp comes on and goes off at dawn. So simple. I love it.
