Answer:
I am not sure what chase is, but yes, each light is definitely customizable individually. Hue, brightness, etc. Be sure to check out third-party apps on the android/iphone market, as they can extend the functionality of these lights even more!

Answer:
yes, but it would probably need special software to do exactly what you want. Writing such a program is fairly easy for a programmer as they have documented how to control them.
Each light is individually addressable and controllable.

Answer:
Yes but not from the main Phillips Hue app. Multiple other apps are available (not all are free) that can do more sophisticated controls/scenes including continuous color changes. Some will sync to music as well (if played through the phone).

This is not possible through Hue directly, but there are 3rd party apps such as . E.g. Hue scintillator which can do this.

Answer:
Yes! You can create your own custom light scenes or apply and adapt the application provided examples. The possibilities are nearly endless, but the absolute number of Hue scenes you have loaded at anyone time within the app for your Hue bridge are have an upper limit.

I am running six lights off one bridge -- no need for a second one. I don't think there is a limit to the number of lights (or the types of lights) you can add to a bridge. If there is a limit, it's really high.

each bridge support up to 50 lights. If you have > 50 just use another bridge.
Controlling more than one bridge at a time would probably require purpose written software but that is very doable.

Answer:
Smaller cans, for sure. I would fine a cheapo BR30 bulb and size your can selection based off that. These bulbs are designed to mimic the size of BR30s. They are not large.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very flexible This is how lighting will be in the future! That future is now. Plug the bridge into your router, replace the light bulbs and you are done installing. The Hue app did battle to find these new lights on my bridge and I found that I had to enter their MAC address to get the bridge to find them, so write down the MAC address of each light before you install them. This is probably just a bug that will get fixed with time. I love the flexibility that the system provides. Since the APi is open, 3rd party developers who can write much better software can integrate with the system. There are better apps than the official Hue app which is pretty poor. For example, the system can be used with IFTTT to switch lights according to all sorts of triggers. We have one light set to come on in green is the local pollen count is high so my wife who has allergies can be alerted. I dislike the fact that the bridge makes all lights come on at full intensity white instead of having an option to remember the previous settings. this means that the existing wall light switches can only power the lights off or full white. Any other setting demands that reach for a mobile device/computer to make them the color you want. I hope they fix this. April 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better Than I Expected The Philips Hue BR30 LED Starter Kit comes with three bulbs and the bridge needed to control them. In my home I have recess lighting in the kitchen but was unsure if these bulbs would be bright enough for everyday use. This Philips Hue Starter kits was very easy to set up. Once the bridge is connected, the app downloaded, and bulbs placed, the app guides you through the rest. To my surprise, the Hue bulbs are actually smaller than the 65 watt incandescent bulbs I use. An even greater surprise is that the Hue bulbs are brighter than the incandescent bulbs. With the app you can turn the lights millions of colors. The app also allows you to set times and alarms. Another option is turning the lights on and off via geofencing. Basically the lights can turn off and on when you leave and arrive home respectively. Although Hue has its official app, there are numerous 3rd party apps. Right now, I have the lights set to come at 6:45 a.m. during the week. That's the time we go downstairs before heading out for school and work. It's nice having the lights already on when you go downstairs. It's even nicer that they go off by themselves shortly after we leave. The only con for me is that these lights don't work with dimmers. In the evening after the kitchen is cleaned from dinner we usually dim the kitchen lights before bed. Dimming is possible via the app but that would mean my wife and three kids would need the app on their phones as well. My wife doesn't care to use the app and I really don't want my kids having control over the Hue Lights. This wouldn't be a big deal but we dim the kitchen lights almost every night. For now I'm trying to determine if they will work or if I'll need to go back to bulbs that are dimmable from the light switch. Regardless of my personal situation, I really like this Hue BR30 Starter Kit. April 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great light bulbs These bulbs are fantastic. Being able to dim each bulb without the need for a dimmer is quite handy. Changing the color from a blue light to a warmer color depending on the time of the day is very cool. And kids love it when you change them to all sorts of different colors. If you are tech savvy you can tie it into your home theatre to have the lights dim when starting a movie. Upgrade to the new Hue Bridge and now you use voice commands to turn them on or off or change a scene. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wow This is a fun product that works from your phone without a problem. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Innovation We loved that these lights synched up with our existing Hue hub and did not require an extra slot on the router. Much easier to install than our first batch, since we had a prior system hooked up. Just like the household bulb replacement kit that Phillips sells, these overhead bulbs are probably overkill for everyday household use. However, for specialty applications or for those who want the latest and greatest in LED technology, these are sublime. Like other reviewers, I had good results with third-party smartphone apps to really push the limits of these lights. For specialty applications, parties, and for creative types these are a marvelous innovation. And when the party stops and they are called into service as everyday household lights, they do an admirable job there too. October 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Philips Hue Lighting This is an awesome product. I got it for my wife. She is a creative professional and this product has inspired her in her career. Personally these lights are fun to play with. In our experience, they never fail to take a command. The price is kinda high for bulbs, but the quality is undeniable. The software that comes from the manufacturer isn't very good. Look around for 3rd party software, or write your own. These lights are designed on an open standard (Zigbee I believe), so have at it. Bravo to Philips for using an open standard. It adds even more value to this product. The lighting can be incorporated into much larger automation projects. July 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great way to set the mood Very easy to set up and a lot more apps out there than I thought to help colorize your house! The only disappointment was we wanted to cast a turquoise hue, but it just looks bright white. But the primary colors are vibrant and set the mood to almost anything you want it to be. Out of the box it sets up to a "normal" yellow light color which is great and you can dim right from the app. We were looking for some accent lighting in addition to regular lighting. We were also considering installing a dimmer. We chose this product because of it's all-in-one nature. It's a little pricey, but totally worth it. And the kids love helping chose the color. So pleased with this purchase and I want to eventually switch over all of my bulbs. February 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can function as "normal" lights or color accents To begin, these lights are extremely easy to install. They screw in just like any other BR30 bulb and will turn on to a typical incandescent warm white out of the box. The Hue hub sets up quickly (needs a direct network cable to your router/modem) and detects the bulbs with a push of a button (smartphone app is free to download). For my everyday use I have these "synced" together to an identical warm white but you can easily change them to a cool white or daylight if you choose. Automated scenes can be set up easily in the app to change the light colors simultaneously nearly instantaneously. You can choose colors from a palette in the app or use a picture from your phone to select individual colors to match. The lights are also dimmable through the app. If these are installed on a dimmable switch it will simply turn them off and the bulb itself can make an annoying loud buzzing sound. I would like the main Hue app to include an option for continuous color changes but other third party apps are available. Additional Hue lights can be added through the app and lights can be controlled through other home automation networks. April 1, 2015
