Customer Questions & Answers

Are these prehung? Do they come with hardware? What color is the glass?

Asked by: Bill
Bill, they are not prehung but the hardware does come with it, and is darn simple if you take your time and have a friend to help hold them up for you while you adjust where you want them. It's easier, I think, than a prehung door but that's depending on your patience and skill level. I had to get two sets together and I had to cut the height down a bit on all so yours might be easier still. The glass is clear but has a protective layer of plastic film on it so you can stain or paint near the glass, then pull off the film for a clean look. I will be painting mine in a week or so.

Can these be hung and used as true french doors?
Asked by: Tee
Yes, I did. You have to remove the bi-fold hinges and replace with regular ones, I would use 3 inch hinges, three on each door. They are beautiful doors, see photos.

Would the 36x80 inch door fit in a 35 9/16 x 80 3/16 opening?

I want to replace a door with door panels measuring 35x79 inches in a roughed in openning of 35 9/16 x 80 3/16 inches. Would the 36 x 80 door fit? If not, could you produce a custom built door for this openning?
Asked by: Grose
Yes this door can be adjusted slightly to fill a slightly wider opening. The high would just give you more room at the bottom. 3/16 is nothing to be concerned about.

Mine had some slight imperfections on one side of the door. It happened to be on the other side when I started working on it preparing to paint. My fault for not flipping it over for inspection before starting. Once painted you don't notice it so overall I'm okay with it. They should provide an inside door pull for the application since a French door like this is probably being used for two sided operation. I was able to 3D print one based on a design used by a large multi-door folding design Have on an exterior door. See images.

I got two sets of these doors to close off half of a double parlor, turning it into a bedroom at will or leaving them open to keep the open parlor we have now. These doors hung up in about 45 minutes, (after I had to cut them shorter by an inch and a half) but if you've done them before, it could've been fifteen. They are made quite well, all the many joints are perfectly mated. Might be a little difficult to replace a glass so I don't recommend you break any. We are going to paint them white to match everything else. They work easy, look great and add a touch of detail and character easily and inexpensively to our house.

Installed these as hinged double doors on my pantry, and they look exactly as I had envisioned. The doors are very well packaged and protected while shipping, and I installed them myself in a very short amount of time. The painting took quite a while with all of those mullions. Plus, the wood is very soft and the edges are a bit rough and "hairy," so priming is necessary. I used a quality oil-based primer (purchased at HD), and then sanded with 220-grit sandpaper. Then I painted with two coats of paint. I love that the panes are each covered with plastic so there's no taping or steady hand needed when painting these. The film is kind of a pain to get off. I used a utility knife with a brand new, very sharp blade in it, cut around each mullion, and peeled the film off. It worked perfectly, and looked beautiful afterwards.

We ordered three of these doors and all three needed to be sanded and splinters removed before painting. There were small slivers of wood that should have been sanded off at the factory. We had to put A LOT of work into these doors to make them look nice. One hinge was bent and we didn't realize it until one coat of paint was on so we didn't ask for an exchange. I wouldn't recommend these doors due to the fact that they are more work than they are worth. It would have been better if we just ordered a higher grade door. We usually rave about Home Depot products so we are highly disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Measure! 36 x78 1/2 Is the real size .. and that's why I am giving it only 3 stars , the quality of the door is excellent but it was really a headache to install this door. I always read very carefully the description and specifications of the products that I want to buy and this door says is 80" .. I didn't return the door becbecause is really nice! .. so since the door it was nice but small I had to figured out and improvise. The rrsults are great!

I was very disappointed when I tried to stain the doors. I used conditioner before stain but the stain was blotchy and did not go on evenly. I, therefore, painted the doors and I am very happy with the results. The plastic coating on the glass was very helpful. After painting, I just peeled off all of the plastic and washed the windows.

One rail was somewhat bent, but it was still quite usable. When I made a mistake while installing the door (trying to force it into too small an opening) and broke one of the wheels, the company sent me a complete replacement set of hardware at no cost. Overall I'm very pleased with the doors and the support behind them.
