Product Overview

Built for durability, accuracy and power, the Porter-Cable 3-1/4 HP Five-Speed Plunge Router has a 5-speed, 15 amp motor that maintains constant speed under load and can handle any task. Designed with 100% sealed ball-bearings, the bottom bearing in the motor is closer to the workpiece, giving it the least vibration and run-out. Precision-machined aluminum motor housing prevents heat build-up and router bits won't become frozen or stuck in the collet due to an exclusive auto-release design that frees the collet from the arbor as the locking nut is loosened. The convenient plunge mechanism with fully enclosed springs allows easy entry of bits when cutting into the surface of a workpiece and the plunge depth of up to three inches can be easily controlled with a 6-position step turret and depth rod. Great for the production shop, for countertop fabricators or furniture makers, this router is easy to use with a soft start for safer startup and when used in a router table, can also act as a shaper.

Asked by: twister
All 7500 Series routers accommodate bits with 1/2" diameter shanks that are installed directly into the power unit collet. Collets are available that will allow the use of bits having 1/4" or 3/8" diameter shanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All the power you will need I work in the aluminum storefront fabrication business and have been using lower grade routers for years. I would get from 1-3 months of service from them before the armature would burn out. I finally decided to put the extra money into a router purchase and am I ever glad I did. This baby has more than enough power to cut through the aluminum tubing that we use without even getting warm. For the price of three of the routers I have been using I have already gotten the work of three from this router and it is still going strong. If you do heavy duty work, and you are tough on a router, this one is for you. The only down side is that it is big and heavy, but if you are doing heavy work the extra weight actually makes guiding the tool easier. The plunge base is a godsend as I do a lot of cuts that require varying depths of cut. The guides on the base allow me to preset for different depths. This allows me to produce more work faster. I highly recommend this router for commercial use.
