Customer Questions & Answers

can i replace this track without removing my patio door ?, my door is extremely heavy

Asked by: fixer
Yes, it's possible to install this track cover without removing the door. To do this, you need to raise the door and slide the track underneath. I've done it. But it's not easy. And I don't recommend attempting this unless you have appropriate tools and wedges and a helper to raise the door. Bottom line: if you're asking this question, then it's probably too advanced for you.

Will this fit any sliding patio door

Asked by: Anonymous
It depends of the height of the track that is currently in place. This product is for a quarter inch track. Do some measurements.

I need it in 10'. How can I get it.

Asked by: Willi
You will need to buy two and put them together on the old track. You may want to cut two 5' pieces to keep them in place, a 2' piece may move when you open the door.

Purchased this to repair a heavily damaged track on an older and very HEAVY 8' long mirrored closet door. Our track was heavily damaged making it difficult for the repair track to even attach to a large section of the damaged track. I applied the silicone as stated, however, once you start hammering the track into place the silicone goes flying, so it got messy. I think the silicone is necessary especially in our case, but in hindsight I would of done things a bit differently. The video shows him putting the silicone into the repair track, which is what I did, but I think I should run the bead down the old rail, that way once you start tapping it into place it wont come splattering out of the repair track. Also if you have an extremely damaged rail you may need to work at it to get it attached well, It took some doing with a block of wood and a hammer tapping here and there for the worst part of the track, but having said all that, once I got it in place I am totally happy with the repair, the door glides like new!

Install slowly and keep the new track centered over the old track (it kept rotating off-center on me). Other than that, it was great. HD ship-to-store was SLOW!

I used this to repair my sliding patio screen door track, which is made from plastic. There were a few sections of the rib that were broken, so the sliding screen door would jump off the track. Since the sliding door was quite old (built in 1995) and I don't know who the manufacturer is or if they are still in business, this repair track saved me from buying a whole new sliding patio door. Especially when only the screen door track was broken. It just needs some silicone adhesive and needs to be crimped over the original track rib. Gloves are important when trying to crimp, otherwise you may get blisters on your hands from squeezing the pliers so hard. I just installed it on 3/21/2017 so only time will tell how durable it is. The stainless steel construction should allow it to last for a long time since it will not rust. This repair track should also strengthen the entire track rib, which will help prevent failures in case you have pets or kids that push on the screen door. The final result turned out nice and it exceeded my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product! This product saved me alot of money and time. I have a rental with a outdated custom size sliding patio door that has seen better days. The weight of the 4 ft by 10 ft door and the lack of maintenance and cleanliness of tenants lead to the track edge wearing down and putting a flat spot on the stainless steel track wheel. Last year I grinded and filed the leading edge and bought it some more time in service. Thoughts that I would be renovating that entire interior wall just to replace that sliding door to something more common seemed inevitable. Thanks to this producted I no longer need to even consider replacement because it is as good if not better than new. Highly recommend.

The old track had several dents in it and caused the door to bind and jam when operating. The repair track fits over the top of the old track. All you have to do is to remove the sliding door cut the track to length and press it into place then reinstall the door. I am a novice at this so it took me a little work but was able to get the job done and the sliding door works like it was new. I would highly recommend this repair kit. I will save you a labor bill because you can do the reppair yourself. If you falter you just go to the internet and find all the help you need.

I had to spread the opening a little bi to get it to start over my old track. They recommend using an adhesive on it but after finally getting the track in place I didn't want to remove it to put adhesive on and it seems to be staying put very well. My patio door works great now. My only issue is that the track arrived at my local Home Depot damaged. They sent me an email telling me to come look at it to see if I would accept it. Since I had to cut the track to length, I was able to cut out the damaged part but it would have been nice to not have to deal with that. It was sent in a heavy cardboard tube so I don't understand how it could have gotten damaged so badly.
