Customer Questions & Answers

can i replace this track without removing my patio door ?, my door is extremely heavy

Asked by: fixer
Yes, it's possible to install this track cover without removing the door. To do this, you need to raise the door and slide the track underneath. I've done it. But it's not easy. And I don't recommend attempting this unless you have appropriate tools and wedges and a helper to raise the door. Bottom line: if you're asking this question, then it's probably too advanced for you.

Will this fit any sliding patio door

It depends of the height of the track that is currently in place. This product is for a quarter inch track. Do some measurements.

I need it in 10'. How can I get it.

Asked by: Willi
You will need to buy two and put them together on the old track. You may want to cut two 5' pieces to keep them in place, a 2' piece may move when you open the door.

This repair track completely restored the worn, bumpy, and beat-up aluminum track that was 22 years old. I cut it with a rotary tool and smoothed the ends. I installed it with a small bead of silicone as shown in the video from Prime Line. It fit very well, and was pretty easy to put in place with a hammer and wood block. It takes a little care to keep it in line and it helps to have a second person. I had to glue the very ends down because the old track was so worn. The end result was great and the door now rolls back and forth easily, and the lock lines up again. I don't know of anything else on the market. The product is excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product! This product saved me alot of money and time. I have a rental with a outdated custom size sliding patio door that has seen better days. The weight of the 4 ft by 10 ft door and the lack of maintenance and cleanliness of tenants lead to the track edge wearing down and putting a flat spot on the stainless steel track wheel. Last year I grinded and filed the leading edge and bought it some more time in service. Thoughts that I would be renovating that entire interior wall just to replace that sliding door to something more common seemed inevitable. Thanks to this producted I no longer need to even consider replacement because it is as good if not better than new. Highly recommend.

The old track had several dents in it and caused the door to bind and jam when operating. The repair track fits over the top of the old track. All you have to do is to remove the sliding door cut the track to length and press it into place then reinstall the door. I am a novice at this so it took me a little work but was able to get the job done and the sliding door works like it was new. I would highly recommend this repair kit. I will save you a labor bill because you can do the reppair yourself. If you falter you just go to the internet and find all the help you need.

This little gem can save you thousands of dollars. The baseplate track for my sliding patio doors was not available. Seems no one carried or could get this part for me. After a ton of searching, i found this repair track at Home Depot online. It was very easy to install. Just cut to length and install with a block of wood and a hammer. Saved me from replacing the complete sliding patio door saving me thousands. Surprised this item isn't carried in the local stores. I believe they would sell tons more if carried locally.

I had to spread the opening a little bi to get it to start over my old track. They recommend using an adhesive on it but after finally getting the track in place I didn't want to remove it to put adhesive on and it seems to be staying put very well. My patio door works great now. My only issue is that the track arrived at my local Home Depot damaged. They sent me an email telling me to come look at it to see if I would accept it. Since I had to cut the track to length, I was able to cut out the damaged part but it would have been nice to not have to deal with that. It was sent in a heavy cardboard tube so I don't understand how it could have gotten damaged so badly.

My 8' sliding glass door was very hard to open and close. I changed the rollers and trimmed the door frame where it was rubbing slightly with hardly any improvement. I saw this rail repair track on YouTube and it worked wonders. My old track had completely worn through in places. Just pry the old track up and tap this one on with a rubber hammer or block of wood. The results were instant. Can now open door with one finger., With a firm short push the door will run to the end of the track and actually bounce off the bumper at the end and come back. I did run a small bead of silicone in the new track before installing to level out the uneven spots in the rail below and to help the track adhere.
