can this leveler be used on staircase

Got 17ft walls to paint, ext ladder do best for situation, I would feel more comfortablely stable, than using a cinder block. not to say I hvent done b4.

A Base mate ladder leveler can adjust up to a height differential of 12 inches, But The Base mate needs a minimum width of 28" for the leveler to be properly set up on two different stair levels so the width of the stair treads would have to be wider than 14 inches each, preferably a minimum of 16 inches in width. This is much wider than a standard stair tread so unfortunately the Base mate would not work in this type of application.

Permanently attach it to the ladder?

I store my ladders hanging horizontal in my most people attach these to their ladders permanently or do they take them on/off each time they need to use them? Like my ladder braces (for the top), I take them on/off before I rehang my ladders...I'm wondering how practical it is to take these levelers on/off each time I need to use my extension ladders. thanks caf
Asked by: CAF
You could leave it on, I take it on and off, depends on what I'm doing for work. Don't need it all the time.

Will this leveler straddle a peak of a roof

I have an addition that attaches to the gable end of my main house. I need to replace the gable end louver on the main house. I need a way to get to the louver as it is approximately 8 feet above the peak of the addition. My first thought was to build a small platform that I could place a straight ladder onto. This leveler looks like it would be a simpler solution. Is the depth of the arch of the leveler deep enough to straddle the addition? See the attached photo of my problem.
Asked by: WEdward
Unfortunately, we do not recommend this type of application for our product and do not have an alternative solution to offer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Leveler I have 2 of these levelers, one on a 16 foot ladder and the other on a 28 foot one. I have been using them for several years without any problem. Setting them couldn't be easier. The leveler has an adjustment pedal adjacent to each foot. Simply stand the ladder vertical and step on the pedal that is on the high side and the feet will swivel into position. That's it! The only thing to keep in mind is the additional weight to the ladder. This weight is a plus while the ladder is vertical since it is located at the bottom. It becomes noticeable when you go to transport the ladder and have to learn where the balance point is. Bottom line for me is I plan to equip any extension ladder I buy with this leveler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed After many years of trying to stabilize my extension ladder on the uneven ground around my house using blocks of wood, I bought this leveler, and it made a huge difference in the ladder's stability. It takes a little bit of trial and error to fasten it to the bottom of the ladder and get the hang of the foot pedals that perform the adjustment, but once you get past that, it's terrific. I'll never attempt second story tasks again without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Invention Ever! When I found this product on HD, I was skeptical, but the reviews by contractors convinced me to give it a try. We had one side of our house left to paint, but the slope was pretty severe. We had looked at renting, buying or constructing scaffolding or staging and had about given up. I looked at other ladder leg extensions, but they weren't long enough for the slope we were dealing with. This product assembled fairly easily (although my husband thought he could have written better instructions) and attached easily to our extension ladder and we were super impressed with how stable it was. There are even two little bubble levels on it to insure that the ladder is level. My husband was able to paint the eaves 25 feet off the ground and wouldn't have hesitated to go higher, he felt so confident. If I could have given it 10 stars, I would have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique Design: Safe, Functional, & Reliable Unique design is in my opinion better than other ladder levelers. Adds width and 17 lbs weight at bottom of ladder. All features serve a useful function. Easy to adjust (after installation). Good instructions but not so easy to install - orientation on ladder can be confusing. Added approximately 15" height to 24' extension ladder - just enough for ladder to extend 2' above level of my second story gutters - much safer that way. I am a retired mechanical engineer and can always think of ways to improve products - that is why I gave Quality and Value 4 stars. Overall I am very happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't know how I did without it. Essential part of ladder use This ladder base/stabilizer is well constructed and, once set up correctly, very simple and easy to use. Combined with a stabilizer of almost any type on the top (I have several types and use them all) and the ladder becomes simple to level and as stable as if it were bolted to the ground and the structure. You can't rock, twist, jiggle or move the ladder out of position. The only thing you need to be aware is that you must get the attaching points on the ladder securely and in parallel or it will be difficult to adjust for level and/or the base can work loose. Also adds significant weight to a ladder so it moves the balancing point more than a few feet on some ladders.
