Can it be used in cold weather?

The temperature drops to around or a bit below freezing at night, but is above freezing during the day. I want to put in some fence posts.
Asked by: JanLaw
I have used this produce in the same type of weather to make support blocks 16x24x8 above ground--But I protected it from freezing overnight with the use of insulation blankets. No harm seemed to be done to the blocks--but you are taking a chance.--If it freezes before it cures and the moisture is out it will crack.

Sold in 60 pound bags, not 50 as listed on the net, no big deal but caused some confusion with my on-line order vs when I picked it up. I'm a cement newbie but need to re-align a few old fence posts so gave this a try. The first time I poured dry into the hole, saturated the area with water and kinda poked at it with a shovel. Water eventually all absorbed so don't think I overdid it. Didn't truly set for 3 days so probably shy on the agua. The second time I poured dry, saturated then mixed with my hand and a trowel as deep as I could go until it became a uniform slurry...then I added some dry to the top before it cured, wetted just a bit..set rock hard in <1 hour. I did buy a bottle of Sika Pro Select Concrete Bonding Adhesive @ Acrylic Fortifier in case I have to use this product along with old post concrete that I can not get out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not hard after 12 hours I followed the instructions on the bag for setting a post exactly. The instructions indicate you can pour this into your hole dry and add water afterwards as long as hole is less than 30" deep. I did exactly that. The instructions say you can start using your post after 4 hours. I waited 12 hours and the concrete immediately cracked clean through when I out weight on the post. My post hole was 9" in diameter.

I bought 68 bags to use as a flag pole base. i did not fully trust the claims of " Just pour water on top and let it sink in" so i tested it. I cut the top off a clear 5 gallon water bottle and poured a half a bag in, poured the required water on top and let it alone. the water could be seen creeping down and through the concrete mix. In about 15 minutes it was mostly saturated. I added the second half of the bag on top and poured the required water on top to test the joint between the two. Same result, full saturation in about 15 minutes. After a few days of sitting i unwrapped the plastic bottle from around the concrete, picked up the block and dropped it, hit it with a hammer, could not break the block at the joint. Very impressive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and easy I purchased a few bags of Quikcrete fast settling concrete from Home Depot, to install a couple 4x4 posts in my yard over the weekend. I had never used this product before so when I saw it in the store, I jumped at the chance to avoid mixing cement in a wheelbarrow with a shovel. The product worked exactly as described. After putting gravel in the hole and leveling the post, I dumped 3 bags in per hole, as the guide on the package recommended. I added roughly 3 gallons of water (1 gallon per bag) and walked away. After a couple hours the top of the cement had hardened. After 4 hours, the post was solid and I finished my project the same day. This project was supposed to take a couple weekends to complete but thanks to Quikrete, I finished in a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I have used this product before and it worked just as well this time. I'm a small woman so the difference between a 50lb bag and 80lb bag makes a difference. Also I don't have to premix which also takes a lot of physical strength. I do pour it in the hole pour in the right amount of water and use a piece of rebar to make sure the water mixes well with the concrete mix all through. I put up a chain link fence oh maybe 10 years ago. No sign of any cracks all standing well. Doing better than the concrete where the fence builder I paid to put up the privacy fence put in his post holes.
