What is the right way to wash these filters?

Asked by: Whitey
Everyone says they are not washable and conventional wisdom definitely says you probably shouldn't wash paper filters. But I tried anyway just to see results. I ran under cool to warm water for about 5-10 mins, turning and running my fingers and a soft brush between the pleats. I'm sure some dirt got pushed into paper but the filter definitely held up and definitely still works after drying out. The filter was originally clogged so much you could feel the loss of suction. I wouldn't say I have full suction back, but definitely improved and close enough to original performance for me that I'm happy. Did this because I was going through a filter a week picking up sawdust from some remodeling. After buying over $50 worth of filters I had to try something. Satisfied and will continue to wash for now. These are "everyday dirt" and not HEPA or anything. For my purposes, washing works just fine.

Are Rigid VF4200 1-Layer Pleated Paper Filters really WASHABLE and reuseable according to the description?

Asked by: Anonymous
My old one was sort filthy and clogged up, it wasn't worth washing. Possibly if I had checked it more frequently, it might have been salvageable.

The key to vacuum long life is changing the filter regularly. I use my RIGID garage vac., almost weekly. I use it to sweep the garage, carport and patio, mostly leaves and debris. I also sweep the leaves out of the flower beds, and at the street curb. This filter works great because my cleaning is in the garage with the doors open or outdoors. This time, when I went to purchase it, I saved time and money by buying the 2-Pack.

The filter does not work well if you use your vac for wet as well as dry pick up. Even if you only use it for dry pick up it is difficult to clean and needs to be replaced relatively frequently. It picks up most dirt in the shop. but fine sawdust clogs it and should be something you could shake or brush out in order to reuse the filter. You can use it for about five or six times that the vac has to be emptied.

I had a filter in there that came with the vacuum from 2 years ago and it just started putting dust into the air even after I would clean it out. This brand new one lets just as much dust into the air as the old one. It is easy to install and stuff but it doesn't catch dust near like it is designed to.

I mistakenly left damp soil in the vacuum and had to replace the filter. I would suggest that anytime a vac owner uses their equipment for damp or wet conditions that they totally open the vacuum and let the filter to completely air dry. If you allow a wet or damp filter to remain in the vacuum that it will effectively rot and will have to be replaced.

We bought a Rigid vac a couple years ago and used it for a variety of projects around the house. I noticed last week that it was blowing dust that I was trying to clean up. I installed the new filter and a diffuser/muffler, and I'm back to outstanding performance. I used it to vacuum up dust from regrouting a shower, and it worked just great.

I have had the Ridgid shop vac for several years and have purchased many filters. We have remodeled our home and have gone through many filters. They collect loads of dust and keep it from going back into the room. I also use the vac in my wood shop. I recommend the vac and the great filters.
