Answer:
The cap and tightener are not included. The newer filters do not need the cap just the tightener. The newer filter have a what i describe as a rubber cap already molded to the filter.

I couldn't find reference to WR4000 anywhere. There is a VF4000. If thats the one you need it has a built in flexible rubber cap on the end of it. All you need is the nut and your good to go.

Answer:
All our filters including the VF4000 now have an integrated rubber cover on one end thus customers no longer need a separate filter plate or cover. The new filters are available at Home Depot stores, over the phone through Customer service at 1-800-474-3443 options 1, 3 and 1 or on-line at www.ridgidparts.com using this link http://ridgidparts.com/accessories/vacfilters.phtml.

I have never tried, replacement is the best option. If you do wash it, make sure you dry it well before reinstalling. If you don't it may mold.

Answer:
No, this style is not washable. The pleats can, however be vaccumed out, and this
does prolong the life of the filter. There also are filters for sale at Home Depot, that
are washable, to use in these vac's.

Either filter will work. The VF4000 is the basic paper filter that comes with most of our vacs. The VF5000 is a high efficiency filter. They can be purchased at Home Depot or online at www.ridgidparts.com.

As my handle suggests I have two homes and right now the filter you ask about is in the other one. I do recall I was puzzled as well, because the new filter comes with a cap and if you use the new cap , which is a little different from the old cap, you end up storing the old one in case there is some need in the future. I'm pretty sure you have figured this out and I guess once manufacturers of vacs sell you the machine they spend all their efforts trying to get you to buy a whole new one instead of servicing the one you bought.
Now here is something new, I own a Rigid 3 gallon in my other home and I have found that using a second bag and a thick elastic and clip type clamp, you can trap 95% of the vaccumings before they reach the pleated filter. This greatly increases the life of the filter you just bought. If I was younger I would know how to make a video to show you.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good filter Who needs Hepa-filters when you are vacuuming up some saw dust or some bubbly water from an overflowing clothes washer? Toss this puppy on, use it until it starts smelling and toss it. Better yet, vacuum the filter and put it back on for a few more days. It is good quality, fairly cheap and does it's job well.
