Customer Questions & Answers

Are these blades for the R4331 model?

Asked by: ZachB
I have a R4331 planer I bought from Direct Tool Outlet reconditioned. I recently purchased these blades to replace the old ones. They do have the notches on the ends but I had NO clearance issues. I have ran quite a bit of material through the planer and have had great results. hope this helps.

my feeder quit working

Asked by: loren
I had an issue about a month after I got my planer. I was using my shop vac for dust collection and didn't realize it got full which causing the chips to back up in the planer and the wood got stuck and started smoking. I shut it off before any damage occurred but then I found the feed rollers were not turning anymore. before taking it in I decided to investigate a little. if you raise the cutter head (make sure to unplug the machine first) from the back look to the left side and there is a belt that drives the rollers. All I had to do was work the belt back on the gear and it fixed my problem. haven't had any issues since.

Will Ridgid 13 Inch Planer Blade Fit My Delta 13 Inch Planer?

I have a Delta planer (model # 22-580) and cannot find the blades called for (model 22-549.) The Ridgid blades look like they may work. Do you know?
Asked by: Blacksher
Not sure. My understanding is planer blades are pretty specific to the manufacturer. The best way to find out is to put them on and see if they fit. If they do not fit EXACTLY like the blades recommended for your Delta, don't use them on it! Could see a lot of damage to the machine if they're off a tiny bit. Good luck!

Do the 13 inch planer blades fit the R4331 planer. One person says no but Rigid says yes. We need a third response from someone who has used them!

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: George
My experience is no, they do not fit. The problem is with the notch that extends past the tip of the blade. I did find that if you file the end down, you can make it fit.

However, I can't find the correct replacement blades anyone (and I've looked). I will say that I was able to lightly file the tips of the blades so that that they do fit. Come on Home Depot... make sure your replacement products actually work.

I have owned this planer for about 2 years and have maybe 6 hours of use on it. I am a DIYer who makes small projects pimarily our of pine and poplar so the hardness of the wood is not a big issue. Recently, I planed some painted cabinet panels to remove the paint and I believe that the paint may have been lead based as the blades became dull pretty quickly. I was having symptoms of slow feeding and frequent motor overheating and tripping circuit breaker on the motor. I decided to flip the blades and check the condition of the machine overall. I found the following situations... BLADE CHANGING WAS QUITE EASY AS WAS REMOVING THE COVERS FROM THE MACHINE (5 MINUTES). THE BUSHING (p/n: 089170109051) ON THE GEAR BOX WAS SEVERELY WORN. I DON'T KNOW IF THE GEAR OR SPROCKET ITSELF IS WORN AS I WANTED TO FINISH THE PROJECT WHICH I HAD STARTED. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION I FOUND MANY LOOSE SCREWS AND BOLTS AND A BROKEN GEARBOX GUARD. I PROCEEDED TO TIGHTEN ALL LOOSE COMPONENTS, REASSEMBLED THE MACHINE AND FINISHED MY WORK. THE PLANER NOW SOUNDS AND WORKS MUCH BETTER THAN WHEN IT CAME OUT OF THE BOX!! NOW THAT I HAVE THE TIME, I INTEND TO DISASSEMBLE THE GEARBOX AND CHECK FOR ANY MORE WORN OR DAMAGED PARTS. AS THIS MACHINE WAS A GIFT, I DIDN'T HAVE THE RECEIPT IN ORDER TO FILL OUT THE WARRANTY. FRANKLY, I'D RATHER DO THE WORK MYSELF AND LEARN ABOUT THE WORKINGS OF THIS MACHINE. MY RECOMMENDATION TO ANYONE WHO OWNS OR WILL OWN THIS MACHINE IS TO FIRST REMOVE THE COVERS AND EXAMINE IT FOR LOOSE OR MISSING SCREWS OR BOLTS. IT WORKS SO MUCH BETTER NOW, EVEN WITH THE WORN BUSHING AND IS A LOT QUIETER TOO.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great price, but you get what you pay for. First unit, picked up in mid November, lasted less than a week. Sounded as if the bearings were failing, or something was misaligned. I had already started the project, so time was of the essence. Swapped it in for #2. It lasted a while longer, but did not seem to cut at the same speed. Bogged down on pine. Attributed to dull blades. Today, the lift mechanism failed. Seems the set screws backed out and were lost. Unit #3 was picked-up this morning. It has a defective cutting head. The boards are scored as they pass through the unit. #3 cuts better than the other two by far, but I can't have this line in the middle of the work. #4 tonight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new thickness planer is slicker than snot on a pump handle. This is the second thickness planer I have owned made by Ridgid. It is easy to use and is a great tool to have in the shop. I am 70 years old, and I have used thickness planers for many years... since the 10th grade of H.S. Many of my earlier years' planers were more of a commercial-industrial type, but now my wood working is slowing down, as is my own body, so the stationary thickness planer by Ridgid is more to my speed. It is a good tool and does a great job for "non-production" work. I am pleased with it as a licensed residential-commercial Handyman. It does everything I ask of it and possibly more. A good investment for the work shop of any woodworking enthusiast.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The warranty is none existant Beware if you need parts up here in BC(Canada) its a nightmare trying to find them. Don't bother going to the vendor as they don't even know where the supplier is for parts or repair. I would think twice about buying any rigid small tool for this reason. Its a joke when you have a warranty and no one including Rigid can send you in the right direction. The number on the parts book that came with the machine is not in service. You have been warned. Don't use the planer if you lose a small blade spring, the button heads do unscrew themselves through vibration and jam the planer. It worked well for a month or two of light usage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Dissapointed Very concerned that I purchased a "Home Depot" exclusive product that no longer offers purchasing blades in-store. What an inconvenience to be in the middle of a project that is time sensitive and be left hung out to dry..... So disappointed that I have made the leap to all exclusive Rigid tools, I hope I was not making a multi thousand dollar mistake in doing so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use and setup. Many useable features. The older models the thickness dial tends to wonder with an extra thick cut or when the blades get a bit dull. You want the newest model with the thickness dial lock.
