Does this affect the suction power of the Vacuum?

I am trying to use 20 feet of extension wands on the other end and wondering if this should be removed to get better suction from a long range.
Asked by: ACss
This is a muffler. This muffler will restrict exhaust air flow from this wet/dry vacuum. (internal back pressure). Your Test #1: No suction hose connected to vacuum and no muffler/diffuser connected to vacuum. Turn on vacuum and test suction by placing hand over intake. (100% suction). Your Test #2: Connect supplied suction hose to vacuum and also connect muffler/diffuser to vacuum. Turn on vacuum and test suction by placing hand over suction hose. (maybe around a 65% suction?). My Test #3: Connected 20' foot hose to vacuum and also connected muffler/diffuser to vacuum. Turned on vacuum and tested suction by placing hand over suction hose. (maybe around only a 10% suction?). My Test #4: Connected 20' foot hose to vacuum and no muffler/diffuser connected to vacuum. Turned on vacuum and tested suction by placing hand over suction hose. (maybe around only a 65% suction?). Actual Testing Result: While I was doing testing with the muffler/diffuser connected to vacuum, at one point the internal back pressure inside the vacuum was so high, that it blew off the muffler/diffuser from the vacuum unit.

Will this work with a Ridgid WD4070 and if so how far would it stick out from the vac?

Does it look out of place/bad sticking out of the side of the vac?
Asked by: Mike
Yes and where the black clip is is where it'll clip to the vacuum, so half the overall length roughly from what's stated in the specs.

Works great as a Diffuser....a Muffler it is NOT. I really couldn't tell the noise difference between it with it in or out. Sooo, if you want to buy it to make the vac quiter, don't bother. If you want to buy it to keep the jet of air from blowing everything all over the place in close quarters, then it works great for this application. So, would I recommend this product? As a Muffler....NO; As a Diffuser...YES.

Got home to plug it in and apparently you need an adapter to make the muffler work! I also went to Home Depot to see if this would work on any of the shop gave there and none of them fit without the adapter, rediculous!!!!

This muffler is too expensive, but you want to have one if you're working in your house. Before I installed the muffler, the shop vac blew every piece of paper within 10 feet across the room. The muffler greatly reduces the flying paper. It also seems to reduce dust blown by the vacuum exhaust. The vacuum still cleans with power even with the muffler in place.

Nevertheless it is useful and worth buying if you have your vac on for a long period. I have used it with both the WD1680 and the Smart Cart. You can hear the impact on both. IMHO, it's worth spending the extra on the Smart Cart if you don't plan to wear hearing protection.

It offers two sizes for exhaust portals to fit a variety of sizes. However I did not notice any noise reduction. I was not expecting it to be silent, however I was expecting it to make a difference for people one floor above my workshop. I will be returning this product shortly.
