Where is the hand crank? Hand crank lets you raise and lower platform with ease…. I don't see where the hand crank is accessed.

Can you access the hand crank from the ground? Or do you need to get on a ladder and crank it down? I wish someone would do a video of how they get the lift up and down.

The crank attaches to a metal loop which is part of the planetary gear drive. This drive is part of the frame that attaches to the ceiling.

Answer:
In the main picture, to the left of the yellow section, is an eye-hook like piece. The hand crank is really long and hooks into that. You shouldn't need a ladder once the product is installed, but I suppose it depends on ceiling height. The crank also has a power tool attachment if you don't want to do it manually - and its a lot faster.

The drill adapter only fits 1/2" drills or larger. I had to dig out an old one that was large enough. It does work a lot faster with a drill. The hand crank is a slow & tedious process. You do need to pay attention though, and not go too fast up or down.

As long as the house weighs less than 250 pounds. But I'm thinking just how tall is a portable fishing house? This lift is designed to be attached to a ceiling height of 8 to 10 feet. So the taller the load the less it can to raised. So a 5 foot high item would only be 3 feet off the floor once raised when attached to an 8 foot ceiling.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The assembly instructions were excellent! It works very well! It is made well! October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for making use of otherwise wasted space. This is a very good product, I thought enough of it to buy a second one after I installed the first one. My only concern is the quality of the platform. It seems to me the rest of it is fairly heavy duty, but the platform a bit flimsy. ...but again I am sure it has been engineered to carry the 250lbs safely. I used it in my metal building garage to make use of otherwise wasted space. I installed one for a customer of mine on a normal 9 ft high garage ceiling with wooden joists.. She was very pleased and it looks cool too. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great space saver Mounted by myself. Would be better if I had help. Instructions were clear and accurate. You will want to use electric power to raise and lower platform because hand crank is slow. If installed correctly, lift device will not fail. September 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Addition To The Garage This storage platform was mainly purchased to hold my car roof box overhead in the garage. It also has some extra room left over for a few bulky items. I was really impressed when I put my heavy hitch-mounted cargo basket on it and raised it to the ceiling without issue! It comes with a hand-crank and a drill attachment, which fit my drill perfectly and speeds up the process of raising and lowering the platform. I was a little disappointed that the assembly kit didn't come with washers for some of the bolts; however, it doesn't seem to affect performance or safety (I just like washers to spread the load and keep the nuts from turning on the metal frame). Pick up some extra washers and this is a five-star product. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great lift, easy to install This lift has easy to follow instructions. It only took me, a 56 year old about 30 minutes to install. The hard part was installing the ceiling rails by myself. I just installed one bolt in the middle loosely so I could pre drill the remaining holes for that side. After completing installation, I used a power drill to raise 200 lbs to the ceiling with no problem. My only recommendation would be to replace the plastic rollers with brass ones. I did that yesterday in about an hour. I brought 4 pulleys from Home Depot that worked great. Only cost $4.10 a piece to replace. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good storage in 10-12' ceiling height I bought 4 of these storage racks. When I first opened the box and laid out all the pieces, I was a bit OVERWHELMED! But after assembling the first rack, the rest went very easy. I wished the gauge of steel was a little heavier on all parts. The hardest part of installation was finding the rafters and lining them up. Once I located them they went up fairly fast. I also used my cordless drill to raise and lower the units. It worked out easy to do it this way. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Storage solution Really smooth and easy to use. If you plan your space correctly, keeping in mind where you should be standing when raising & lowering, this lift is great for garages that have unused space up above everything else. Install is a breeze if you have exposed rafters. Make sure you are exact with the 48" between the two brackets. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. It's particularly great for 2 or more stand up paddleboards or kayaks. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product, not easy to assemble The product works exactly as advertised. The easiest shelving unit I have ever used, you never have to lift anything over your head, and you don't have to bend over to pick anything up. Just adjust the height to your needs. The one critique I do have is the assembly. While it looks pretty straight forward to install, it is a two person, two ladder job. Doing it by yourself with one ladder was rough, and it didn't need to be. I have built enough IKEA furniture to know that there are ways to make this process easier. But man once it is up, it is a dream! October 11, 2016
