Answer:
The drill adapter only fits 1/2" drills or larger. I had to dig out an old one that was large enough. It does work a lot faster with a drill. The hand crank is a slow & tedious process. You do need to pay attention though, and not go too fast up or down.

Answer:
The Ceiling Storage Lift system is a manual crank lift with a gear box, unfortunately this unit is not designed to be used with a motor. The unit can be used with a hand drill attached to the winding crank. Please see the instructions.

Where is the hand crank? Hand crank lets you raise and lower platform with ease…. I don't see where the hand crank is accessed.

Can you access the hand crank from the ground? Or do you need to get on a ladder and crank it down? I wish someone would do a video of how they get the lift up and down.

In the main picture, to the left of the yellow section, is an eye-hook like piece. The hand crank is really long and hooks into that. You shouldn't need a ladder once the product is installed, but I suppose it depends on ceiling height. The crank also has a power tool attachment if you don't want to do it manually - and its a lot faster.

Check online "Racor garage overhead storage". Think it is about 200 lbs, but I would check. The unit is
hung from ceiling by 4 cables...don't think it would tip. I have loaded boxes to one side but possibly they were not heavy enough to make it tip. Again, check with manufacturer.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 226 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Addition To The Garage This storage platform was mainly purchased to hold my car roof box overhead in the garage. It also has some extra room left over for a few bulky items. I was really impressed when I put my heavy hitch-mounted cargo basket on it and raised it to the ceiling without issue! It comes with a hand-crank and a drill attachment, which fit my drill perfectly and speeds up the process of raising and lowering the platform. I was a little disappointed that the assembly kit didn't come with washers for some of the bolts; however, it doesn't seem to affect performance or safety (I just like washers to spread the load and keep the nuts from turning on the metal frame). Pick up some extra washers and this is a five-star product. July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good storage in 10-12' ceiling height I bought 4 of these storage racks. When I first opened the box and laid out all the pieces, I was a bit OVERWHELMED! But after assembling the first rack, the rest went very easy. I wished the gauge of steel was a little heavier on all parts. The hardest part of installation was finding the rafters and lining them up. Once I located them they went up fairly fast. I also used my cordless drill to raise and lower the units. It worked out easy to do it this way. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Storage solution Really smooth and easy to use. If you plan your space correctly, keeping in mind where you should be standing when raising & lowering, this lift is great for garages that have unused space up above everything else. Install is a breeze if you have exposed rafters. Make sure you are exact with the 48" between the two brackets. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. It's particularly great for 2 or more stand up paddleboards or kayaks. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for a Jeep top lift This is a great cheap solution to lifting the top off of my Jeep that can be also used as a storage area in the winter. It lifts my top off effortlessly using my cordless drill and the freedom panels go right on top. The only issue I see with it is if there is no weight on the rack the cable tends to cross and over wrap when the rack gets to the top. I also made a few other changes due to personnal preference the eye bolts were too long, the clamped cable was also too long both of these caused it to stop about a foot short of my ceiling. I shortened the eye bolts, reclamped the wire and added a couple small shackles on the wire to make the rack easily removable. July 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Effective This item works well and is exactly what I was looking for. The only reason that I give it a three star rating is that the metals which are used are very soft. I stepped on the platform on accident when I was assembling it and it perminently bent. I know 175 pounds is a lot to place on one grate, but I at least expected it to flex a little. Also, I would not recommend using this item without cutting a square of 1/4 plywood or better to place on it for added strength. I have close to 200 pounds on it including the wood evenly distributed and it is still flexed beyond my comfort level. I would buy this product again due to its design, but it is more flimsy than I expected. July 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a deal! This thing is awesome and Home Depot has the best price! It was quite easy to install and works great! The hardest part of the installation is finding your joists and laying it out. After that it was only about a 1/2 hour install. Instructions were quite clear and there are installation videos on youtube. I used it to take the hard top off my Jeep Wrangler and it worked perfectly! It's now a one person job. The only negative is that if you raise it without any weight on it, the cables ride over each other and it raises crooked. I put a 12 pack of Coke on it and that addressed the issue. I love this thing! June 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Using this product for dual purposes. Works great for my needs. I would tell people it is a little time consuming to put up and to make sure you have a drill that except a half inch chuck if you plan to use the adapter. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great, recommend This is great. My second one bought. Just one note: Screw it to celing in pieces and assemble on the celing. To heavy to lift as one piece. July 26, 2016
