Will it sticks to metal

Asked by: Billy
If you are referring to metal lathing, if installed properly, the stucco will penetrate in the holes and ultimately stick that way. However, if you mean if it will stick to a solid piece of metal, not well enough that it would be considered permanent.

Customer Reviews

50 lb. Stucco Mix is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Important Info to Understand Before Using This Product Let me preface my review by saying I live in the California Desert where our summer time temperatures are regularly in the "Teens" as in 113, 114, 115, etc. Even at these high temperatures, I still have no problem getting 45 minutes of working time. There are a couple of important things you should be aware of in order to ensure you get the working time you expect. 1: Store the bag of stucco in a cool place such as inside your air conditioned home until right before you need it. If you leave the bag in the hot sun, you should count on losing 10 minutes right there. 2: Use Ice Cold Water, NOT water from the hose. If you use the water that has been heating up inside the hose, plan on another 10-15 minutes being lost. Taking these steps from the start will help you avoid having to use the "Set Control" just to achieve 45 minutes of working time. If you do not do the above, you will need to add one or two pouches just to get the 45 minutes if the temperature is above 100 degrees outside. Of course, if you are actually in the teens, as in way too cold for me, the opposite would be best for you. Keep the bag of stucco in your heated house. Use warm or hot water to get the product to fire faster. 3: I personally always mix it in a 5 gallon bucket with a paddle mixer to ensure I get a really "creamy" mix. This also ensures you have properly mixed the product. When I have used a wheel barrow, I did not mix it long enough and the product appeared to start setting in 15-20 minutes. Just by mixing it thoroughly, you will have much better results and a better working time. If you follow these couple steps, on ANY of the Rapid Set products I am sure you will have a great experience. So ignore the couple of bad reviews as these simple steps will ensure your review will be a positive one. Cheers!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good stuff, but a bit pricey Most stucco is quite inexpensive. This product is a premium version of basic stucco. Just like the previous reviewers stated, it does setup quite quickly. I find this to be a positive for small to medium sized projects. As the bag advertises, due to it's speed, you really can do all three coats in one day, if not sooner. I've used this on numerous outdoor wall repairs, patches, framing coverings, etc, and i couldn't be happier with the quality. Once dry, it's super solid and durable and withstands the toughest abuse. It really is great stuff. I do wish it came in smaller bags, however, as if you only use half, the rest seems to harden into a rock and is totally unusable after just a matter of weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not for only for small repairs This product does set up quickly, so if you are slow and working alone, THEN limit yourself to small repairs. I just did a 64 linear ft of 8 foot tall walls, all in one day with one helper and an electric hand mixer. This was just the stucco itself, not the framing and lath etc. I am not a professional, but I am fairly handy. Basically, we mixed one bag at a time, then worked as fast as we could. You get the knack after one bag, and it goes quickly. In warm weather, you REALLY have to work fast with this, but that is also it's strong point, no waiting days before the next step, just bang, bang, bang and you are done. I have to agree with the other reviewer about washing your tools quickly and frequently. I only wish it did not cost so much, but that is the price you pay for speed I guess, This stuff is very strong also, easy to work with as long as you work fast, it stiffens quickly. I recommend buying one bag, and mixing a little at a time, and work on a sample section, to get a feel for it, before purchasing for your entire project.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for patches This is great for repairs in stucco, but only for a couple bags at a time to be cost-effective. Even deep repairs down to the scratch coat and to the building paper below can be completed effectively with multiple layers of this stucco mix. Just make sure to prep the areas thoroughly, keep the old material wet (bonding agents might help too) and scratch everything below the final coat and paint with a masonry-rated paint. I use this whenever I need to patch stucco, and with a little skill can match the existing texture without difficulty because this product is easily worked and fairly forgiving.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to apply for newbies Our first time with stucco application...did not go very well, but that must be our fault. We were stuccoing around a new window installation requiring a depth of 1-1.5". Mixture seemed too crumbly when mixed exactly according to instructions. We mixed 1/2 bag at a time, and did scratch coat first. Did not trowel on very well, kept crumbling off and did not adhere well to scratch coat. Tried a moister mixture, but same problem. Ended up applying with a spackel knife, and just patting on by hand...I am sure we did something very wrong in the mixing. Temp. was 70 degrees. Got the job done, and we are happy with the finished product. Just hope it all stays on the wall...should have hired a pro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great product Rapid Set has blended the plaster sand with some kind of additional additives that make it set up on the surface quickly. I love the fact it can be applied to 3/4 inch! I tried this with another manufacturer's product on an old home where the bricks were deteriorating and after 3 years it needs a new coat. This bag will do 7 square feet and was just right for the repairs I need. It really sets quickly, just as Rapid Set says it will. Additionally I really like the fact everything, the entire job, can be done in one day instead of 3-4 days waiting for setting and drying, and mixing is simple using very little water, that is, just mix until there are no more lumps, then apply which is easy in my opinion. Glad Home Depot carries this great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Easy To Work With I had the good fortune of talking to a representative via Home Depot who told me all about this product and the ins and outs of using it. I felt it was a great education to the product since I am a home improvement guy and did not know much about stucco-ing. I learned that this product when used with one of the stucco adhesives can be used as a topical patch coat. I have used other pre made patch coats in the past and none were easy or can be feathered in to match like this one. Mixing this product is easy. You just use water and get it to the consistency you want to apply to the wall. Also, one good trick I learned with this product too is to take a meat tenderizer (the mallet kind) and lightly knock all your stucco to get the loose particles off. Then apply the stucco mix as needed and feather/float it as needed. Then, before applying paint, always use a similar color primer coat. Then you can paint the effected area to match. ...So easy to do. After awhile you get the hang of this mix. Lastly, if you can bundle your order or do a single purchase, try having it delivered to your home if you can. 50lbs in these kinds of bags are giant dust clouds waiting to happen. It is so much easier when someone else makes a mess on the product's ride home.
