Our Ready-Strip Mastic Remover is a state of the art, environmentally safe mastic remover designed to remove most mastics and adhesives easily and safely. Customer Questions & Answers

Will this remove the Mastic from Porcelain Tile

I read the reviews but everyone is talking about removing the mastic from surfaces but not the tile itself. I painstakingly removed the tile and need to remove the mastic off the bottom of the tiles so I can reuse the tiles. Will this product remove the mastic off of the back of a tile without damaging the front of the tile? Thank you.

This product takes time to work (overnight), but does make removing mastic much easier than scraping or sanding. Used mastic remover on plastered wall. Mastic came off in sheets using sharp wall paper scraper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works, though some elbow grease still required We used Ready Strip to remove carpet adhesive from our basement floor. The previous owners had glued indoor-outdoor carpet to the entire floor, wall-to-wall. When we pulled up the carpet, it left a thick (1/16") layer of dried, flaky yellow adhesive behind. Our basement is cool and dry. The floor is not pefect. There are lots of pits and trowel marks. Ready Strip generally worked as advertized, per the instructions. Here are some additional helpful hints that we learned by trial an error. First, believe the 100 square foot rule. If you try to spead it thinner than that, it will not work as well. I used a paint roller, which remained moist in a ziplock bag between uses. The consistency is like thick, gelatinous chocolate pudding. When you spread it, you should leave it thick enough that you can see the tan color just a little bit. This will ensure that it has enough "power" to get all the way down to concrete through the adhesive. Also, it will "wet" the old adhesive so you can see where you missed. Let it work the required 3-4 hours. Overnight seemed too long as it did not scrape up as easily. We used a long-handled 12" scraper, which rolled the adhesive up in sheets where the floor was smooth underneath. It did not scrape up effortlessly, and applying more Ready Strip did not seem to help. One application, if thick enough, is as good as it gets. The remaning adhesive, though, was soft all the way to the concrete. We found the best way to get the rest of it up was with heavy duty Scotch Brite pads and hot (almost too hot to touch) water. You don't have to scrub hard. Just scuff it over the surface and the remaining adhesive will roll up like rubber cement. Rinse the Scotch Brite pad often and change the water when it begins to cool. You will know because it will not work as well. We tried several detergents, but nothing worked better than plain old hot water. Scrubbing will leave a slick tan slurry which mops up easily. We mopped a couple of times just to make sure we got everything. I can't feel any residue, but I haven't tried to put anything new down (certainly not more indoor-outdoor carpet!), so I don't know how well things will stick to the clean floor. And I don't plan to find out for a long, long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needed to get carpet glue off of my basement floor After much research this item seemed to fit the bill. I purchased it and found it worked great. You need to put it down and leave it for a few hours, not too many though. The package said something about 12 to 24 hours. That was too long as it dried out! 2-3 hours seemed to work best. It stinks a little but I opened up my basement windows and that helped air it out. Once we scraped up the glue we put down warm water and scraped up more glue and mastic remover. Threw some sawdust down to help sop up the mess and it was done!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No effect whatsoever. I took care to apply this goop as directed (about 20 mils thick, at the proper temperature), left it on 24 hours, and it had no effect whatsoever on the mastic. I scraped it off the next day, and saw that the goop was slightly drier as some of its moisture had evaporated, but no mastic could be scraped off with it. The mastic I was trying to remove was dark reddish brown in color. I point this out because it may be a characteristic of a type of mastic that this goop cannot remove.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work for me Been over 24 hours now. Checked it every 2 hours. Applied at 530 am. By the time I went to bed (16 hours later, still no effect. This morning, mastic still hard as a rock. I wonder if I can get my money back?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't need to wear a respirator After trying acid, a power washer, and a brand of adhesive remover, to remove layers of old outdoor carpet glue from my patio with little success, I talked to a chemist friend. She looked online and suggested this product because of the ingredients. The product worked great on the thinner layers. For the thicker layers I had to let it sit much longer, which I was okay with, it was doing the job. Well, a pop-up shower came along and I was concerned the product was washed away and I would need to buy more. Over the rest of the summer and fall, I noticed over time, more of the thicker layers broke down. So, I am pleased with the prodct. If you buy it, really pay attention to the weather, or be patient and let time help. I was happy I did not need to wear a respirator like with other products I tried.
