With them being paper I'm a bit leary about fire. The sun comes in my windows with such heat after a time it causes my mini blinds to curl. The room on the other end of the house those blinds will just melt.
So will they hold up to the heat and not catch fire?

I have very high heat in South Florida (temperatures over 100 in summer) am on the top 15th floor over looking the water on the side facing the sun....with 133 inches of glass windows all the way to the ceiling 10 foot ceilings. The sun is brutal. Very hot, and the windows are like hot to the touch in the summer. They really help keep it cool. My A/C is on 65 and it is 65 degrees right now.. Before the shades it would not go below 75. No problem with fire. My maintenance people have seen them and thought was a great idea.
I have had mine up for almost a year. Never any issues. Through the entire summer.
However, what I found works best is buy two sets. I put one on top of the other, (double layered it). This gives better protection so when the sun fades the back it does not bleed through. The front stays nice and black --solid. I also overlap the three windows so no seam for light to get in.
It has now been six months and I just ordered a third set. I will put it on top of the other two. The reason behind this---. After wear and tear, the new set on top, makes it look fresh and new, with the added protection of no bleed through with fading on the reverse.
I also use the few inches excess I cut off to place over the seams (where the windows meet), so it looks custom. Unless you get up close, you think they are very expensive pleated shades. I am a designer and I love them! Very pleased and works perfectly.
I keep mine clipped about 6-10 inches above my window sill. I like to see out with my water view. It cuts all the sun with the high ceilings. This way I am not moving them up and down. Works better if you keep them stationary. The more you try and move them up and down, they will become worn looking. Think of paper...
Hope this helps! Read Less

Answer:
Hi and thank you for your question. Our paper shades are not combustible and are not treated with any kind of chemical. The heat from the sun might cause the paper to warp eventually, however the shades will not catch on fire. Thank you for your interest in this product.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Temporary shae We bought these shades for our kids room for the summer since it is so bright in the morning . I bet they will last about that long they are paper so they are ripping. If you need temporary shade or will not be moving them up and down every day then these are for you . August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A fantastic product This black out shade keeps light from coming into the room or getting out. With a pair of scissors I cut the width to fit inside the window frame. There is a strip of tape at the top of the shade that I stuck to the plastic frame of the window at the top. I was very pleased with how easy it was to install and how well it works. When I want light in or out I just fold it up starting at the bottom and use a couple of plastic clips (that came with it) to hold it up. The shade has a really good look about it which was another nice surprise. Four shades come in the box and 8 plastic clips. February 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easiest blinds I ever put up Was desperate to find blinds that would block out the morning sun that were easy to put up. Well I found them. If you know how to measure, and peel and stick, this is the product for you. They are one of the best purchases I have ever made. Definitely would recommend them! Thank you, Home Depot, for giving me back my sleep. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love them - work great I love these. I wish I had discovered them 10 years ago. They black out the window effectively. Easy to cut. Easy to hang. The adhesive is super strong. Not sure why others said no. March 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy! We bought these shades for my husband who gets home from work at 6:00AM. After trying out various kinds of shades and curtains, these paper shades work the best. They aren't stylish or beautiful by any means. They block out the light and do the job. They are priced well for what they are... they are paper after all. I highly recommend this product! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can't live (or sleep) without them. I've been using black Redi-Shades on my bedroom windows for over 15 years. They are very effective, durable, and easy to install and use, a great bargain. The adhesive has never come off when I didn't want it to, even after 2-3 years, though they peel off pretty easily when you want to remove them. I do have to replace them every few years when they tear, which they inevitably do when they're folded up and down every day, but they're still a great deal. I hope Home Depot never stops carrying them; my only complaint is that they no longer sell the black ones in stores so I have to order onlne. April 4, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by These black out shades don't. These are supposed to black out shades, but they do not completely close in either direction. When cranking them so that they will deflect the sun (rounded edge out) they do not completely block people from looking in. When cranking them so that they close, (rounded edge in) the sun still filters through and if you lie within 6 feet of the window you have an excellent view of the sky. (see the pictures below) I have never seen a shade so badly designed and then advertised as "black out". October 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good to keep sun out Great for apartments no nailing or damage to wood. My friend had them and she had them up for a long time. Easy to put up and in summer the black keeps the rooms cooler. I dressed mine up with scarfs. August 6, 2011
