Product Overview

The Roberts 70-193 super felt premium underlayment is a 4 mm thick insulating underlayment made to reduce noise and help cushion flooring. By absorbing noise instead of deflecting it, super felt provides a deep, rich sound. This felt underlayment is made from recycled fibers and compressed using a high heat manufacturing process. The film overlay protects engineered and laminate flooring from any moisture from the subfloor and includes an adhesive strip and 1-3/4 in. overlap for linking multiple rolls.

  • For use with engineered wood and laminate flooring
  • Made from heat treated, recycled fibers
  • 60 in. x 72 ft. roll provides 360 sq. ft. of coverage
  • Provides good cushioning over concrete and wood subfloors
  • Includes adhesive strip and 1-3/4 in. overlap for linking rolls
  • Provides deep, rich sound by absorbing sound instead of deflecting it
  • Keeps floors warmer in winter and cooler in summer

Customer Questions & Answers

what is the best tool to use to cut the felt?

Asked by: Anonymous
I used a sharp box cutter along with a straight edge placed over a piece of wood. Had to run the box cutter through a couple of times. This is tough stuff. I guess that's good!

The underlay is thick enough to provide a decent cushion effect for the floating floor. The 360 sq. ft. roll is more economical than the 100 sq. ft. roll and the wider roll makes it quicker to install for larger jobs. Product was well constructed and easy to install with the built in vapour barrier and adhesive strip to seal the adjoining sections.

Requires a good sharp pair of sturdy scissors to cut. Otherwise handles easily. A little care is needed when working on the green side as it will tear, though not as much as the foam products I've used. Gives good feel to the floor and good sound deadening. Used with snap together wood floor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good/straight forward product for the price I purchased this product because I needed about 320 sq-ft of underlayment and it was just a little more than the amount I needed and cost less than buying 100 sf-ft roles. Plus it's larger so it's easier to cover the floor. It qualified for free shipping and came right to my door. Only problem was the outer plastic was ripped, most likely by the mail company. Fortunately there was no rain that day or it might have been ruined. So be careful when you order to be there when it's delivered. The material was easy to role out, the adhesive strip and overlap seam where convenient and I used clear packaging tape to seal together regions that I cut that didn't have the overlap or adhesive. One thing, I tried to cut the role with a box cutter style knife, but it didn't work well. I found that a good pair of regular hand scissors worked best and I didn't have any trouble from the metal material inside the role. Oh just be sure to put the role green/plastic side up, or look at the instructions which are printed on the opposite side of the cardboard label. That reminds me, don't throw out the cardboard label. Also common scenes sweep/vacuum the floor before putting out the underlayment, a small little rock can be dramatically felt through the material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Underlayment very easy to install My wife and I used this underlayment when we installed engineered wood flooring in two bedrooms. It is extremely easy to use, but plan and think ahead - take care with sharp or heavy tools to avoid snagging the plastic vapor barrier, tread carefully on it, and make sure that you have pieces lined up before you stick the attached edging onto the adjacent sheet. I would definitely order this again. If you're unsure, a suggestion is to find the installation instructions online and read through them so that you will know what's involved before you purchase it. [Caution: We have never used any other similar product, so we're unable to compare.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good I bought this underlay for a large family room area (~500 sq.ft., 1st floor, full basement below) for a new hardwood floor, replacing carpet. What I was looking for: - Excellent sound absorbing ability - Above average customer ratings - Cost competitive I didn't want to consider a thick cork solution - one of the best options reported - and use of multiple layers of underlay is discouraged. This material is roughly equal to standard cork underlay and less expensive. It's been easy to work with in 100 sq.ft rolls - 360 sq.ft. rolls were even more cost effective and not difficult to wrangle. The material is like a dense blanket once down and felt very stable. I used a good scissors to cut, which was much faster and easier than a blade.
