Roto Digger 30 in. x 1.75 in. dia. Garden Auger is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just for planting bulbs! This product is excellent quality and has been sucessfully used to: 1. With two drill extensions worked great to run wires for Low Voltage Landscape lights under walks. 2. Drilled neat tight holes in compacted soil to install PVC garden trellis eliminating the need to risk damage by driving them in or needing to dig large holes. 3. Perfect size holes to install high rise sprinklers for my irrigation system, I did not need to dig large holes ,18" deep and worry about the sprinkler heads getting out of plumb when compacting the soil around them. 4. Drilled holes to provide deep irrigation to trees and shrubs. 5. Next spring I plan to actually use it to plant something.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Planting Bulbs My wife and I planted over 70 tulip bulbs last fall and this tool made the work a lot easier. I drilled right through the landscape cloth and my wife dropped in the bulb and we covered it up. The half-moon bed turned out great. The other bed the chipmunks and deer had a feast. We need to replace the bulbs that were eaten by critters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Though it was purchased to aerate the front and back lawns.. we have found it to be a multipurpose tool ... Houston has been in semi-drought again this year and it loosened packed soil in a matter of minutes in our garden beds. Also had the need to install a new ground rod... and this tool gave us almost a 3 foot head start by boring a nice neat hole in place that allowed us to work the rod down to depth quite easily. The pre drilled hole acted as a guide for the rod. I'd buy another just in case.. but no need to, it also comes with a lifetime guarantee. Joe O. Inside the Loop, Houston, TX

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes bulb planting easy My wife and I planted over 6 dozen tulip bulbs using this tool and a cordless drill. I read the reviews and ground four flat spots on the end of the shaft where it chucks into the drill. That pretty well took care of the spinning bit problem others have mentioned. We made short work of our bulb planting and my wife appreciated this with her bad back. It even dug through the landscape cloth we had placed down in the garden! I also plan on using this auger next year to drill under the sidewalk to put in conduits for drip irrigation and electrical. Once you square the shaft to prevent it spinning in the chuck, it works well and is a reasonable value. It digs fast in Tennessee clay. It is a time saver for bulb planting and for that I give it five stars (after my modification).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adding drill chuck flats is a must As a previous reviewer mentioned, you must add flats so that the drill chuck has something to grab. Without the flats, the auger is essentially worthless. Once I added the flats, I drilled almost 40 fertilizer holes, 24" deep, in south Texas lawn soil. My trees are happy. Using the drill auger is easy, but takes some touch. You have to go down a few inches, then pull out. If you try and drill out 24" of soil in 10 seconds, you will just jam.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This auger is very effective - make sure ground is moist! It works pretty well. Soak the ground (I have hard packed dry soil) extremely well before using.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't work for what I wanted. The shank on this is round so it slips inside the drill. I will need to file it down flat in some places so the drill can hold it. Otherwise it slips anytime there is any resistance like a root or rock in the ground. The soil I was trying to drill holes in is mostly GA clay, and had a fair number of roots and rocks in it. This did not work for my needs at all. After several tries I could not get a single hole that was worth using and had to resort to using a shovel to plant my bulbs. This may work better in softer ground or when I get a file to alter the shank.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works good in light soil Works good in light soil but not in thicker clay. Used to bore under sidewalk for a drainage pipe and it did in fact help enough in loosening up the soil enough to pull the rest out with a shovel. This product would work better if the base of the rod was not rounded as it tends to loosen up in the drill chuck no matter how tight
