Customer Questions & Answers

Why are so many people reporting durability issues? Is there any recourse if the product does not perform?

It looks like nearly 40% of the reviews rate this product "poor" and are consistent in their reports of the product looking good to start, but peeling up within weeks or months #how many other initially happy reviewers did not go back to update their review if the product peeled later?#. The standard line from Rustoleum is that it will last 10 years or more without peeling, but how do they explain the actual experience of these people? Something is off here and I'd like to understand better before spending time and money on this. Anyone out there happy with the longevity of the product #details please#. Rustoleum, any explanation? Any help if I'm not happy with the performance?

I applied the product to my deck in June & July 2013. By March 2014 it was peeling and flaking. I originally provided a positive review because the product covers well when applied, but now I am sanding the Rustoleum Restore product off my deck boards and using a competitor's product cover my deck AGAIN. I would not use this product!

I plan on placing an outdoor area rug after using this product. How soon can I place the rug?

Asked by: Jammer
The outdoor rug will trap the moisture against the product and moisture in the wood below will cause the product to peel sooner.

How does tRestore stand up to snow shoveling?

We average almost 200" of snow a year and shovel the deck frequently. Will Restore peel up if gouged by a snow shovel?
Asked by: Anonymous
My guess would be probably not real well since it flaked off in dry weather.

How would this work to coat wood fence posts in a desert climate?

If this is a good sealer for wood to be used as fence posts, would it be best to use treated or untreated wood?
Asked by: Anonymous
Deck & Concrete Restore should only be used on horizontal surfaces. For vertical surfaces, check out our newest product, Vertical Restore. Restore products will adhere to both treated and untreated wood. We recommend allowing new wood to age for a minimum of 6 months to prevent lifting of the coating.

Customer Reviews

4-gal. Navajo Red Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding! Although this product is intended for outdoor use, we were desperate for something that would handle our horrendous basement floor. We had pulled up foam-backed carpeting which left a nightmare of foam and adhesive that had to be treated and scraped. Once we got it as good as it was going to get, and after much discouragement, we tried Restore and got our miracle. After only one coat, as pictured, it covered beautifully with only a few hours of moderate effort. We couldn't be more pleased. Thanks, Rustoleum!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great alternative to deck or concrete replacement The product is expensive however it does exactly what it claims to do. Coverage is about as advertised and two coats is definately needed. I used it to resurface a damaged concrete patio. I had used patching cement to fix the major damage. Restore covered both the new and old surface flawlessly and now you would never know it was damaged. It is a little challenging to apply. I would recommend dipping the roller directly into the 5 gallon bucket rather than using a rolling pan. Also, use a high quality roller as the product is thick and heavy and will destroy cheap rollers. Too bad I learned that after finishing the first coat. Anyway, it looks great and I expect it to be very durable. If it lasts as long as advertised this is well worth the cost and effort to apply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Stuff! This stuff is awesome. Covers splits in the wood. Fills in pits and screw heads. Makes a worn 12 year old deck floor look like new. It is great. Very thick product. I little difficult to work with but well worth the final result. Against the advise of the Home depot paint department, We cheated and used a 3/8" Nap paint roller for the second coat. They said it wouldnt work but we wanted a smoother final finish. it turned out awesome! Very, very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Worth every penny and it looks awesome on. Not as bad to put on as others have stated. Any staining or project like this takes effort but it was not that bad. So glad we did it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not purchase the Rust-Oleum Deck and Concrete "Restore" product Do not purchase the Rust-Oleum Deck and Concrete "Restore" product that is sold at Home Depot. We installed it on my mother's deck and the part that was covered had no issues, but on the uncovered part of the deck, the product peeled off. My mother wrote Rust-Oleum and provided pictures of the deck. There was no response from Rust-Oleum. This lack of customer service is very disappointing after spending $300 on a product that does not work as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from product did what it shows This worked very well for what I needed on my ramp . I had a ramp built and used plywood instead of 2 x 6 and this went on top of the plywood giving it just enough ridges that did not have to put sand or any other grit on it after painting . Went on as easy as directions said . I did one thing different when I put it on I went like you'd paint a wall but did not move on until I went in the same line as I started. it was only to lay it down and make sure all areas were covered . If you don't think you can do it that way then follow the directions it has down . I did it that way because I have a torn rotator cuff in shoulder so came up with a way to put it down first and then while still in same spot did it as directed . cleans up from roller great and two coats on bare non painted wood looked great will take picture for later on so one can see how well it held up in a second review which will show how it held up

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't last We have a large covered deck that was stained originally (at least ten years ago). It looked very poor when we bought the house, so we thoroughly pressure washed the deck and let it dry. A few days later we spent an entire weekend painting the deck, railings, support poles, everything... with this product and it looked beautiful. It is very hard to use, as it is so thick and textured. It takes a lot of product (we went through 6 or 8 buckets) and covers you head to toe with splatter, as well as any surrounding areas. It was a miserable experience, but it looked so nice that we got lots of compliments and our contractor friends were even impressed enough to recommend it to their clients. That was August of 2013. By January, we noticed the paint chipping off of the deck. It is now April 2014 (only 8 months after painting) and it looks horrible! And the deck is not used at all in the winter! It basically sat untouched all season long and started to peel by itself. You can run your finger across any finished area it and it just chips right off like nothing. An approximately $800 project that was miserable to do in the first place just got even worse and I have no idea how we could ever get ALL of the remaining texture off support beams and railing and steps, etc... This product is expensive junk. Save yourself the hassle and stain your deck or find a better more reliable paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible product! Do not buy! We put this on our one year old deck last summer. By spring the paint was peeling up all over the deck. We spent $450 on this paint in which we had to turn around and scrape off. Very disappointing. Do not buy!
