Customer Questions & Answers

does it work on aluminum????

Asked by: arpiar
Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is suitable for use on properly prepared metal surfaces. To prepare the surface, remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Previously coated surfaces must be sound and in good condition. Smooth, hard, or glossy finishes should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile.

Can I use on a propane gas grill grate that has rusted?

Asked by: CraftyMom
Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is recommended for the interior of a grill. We do not recommend it for use on the interior of a grill due to the direct contact with an open flame. This type of environment will cause the coating to blister and peel.

Asked by: Marc
Happy to clear things up, Marc! Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is recommended for use on metal surfaces that reach temperatures will above 200°F since the surface does need to be heated to fully cure the coating. If the surface does not go above 200°F, then check out Rust-Oleum Universal Paint and Primer in One Sprays! http://www.homedepot.com/s/rust%2520oleum%2520universal%2520paint%2520and%2520primer?NCNI-5

The grates on my kitchen gas stove have a matte black finish on them, which have recently started to wear off from cleaning them. Will this be ok for reapplying a black matte finish to them?
Asked by: JoeC
No, Joe. Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paints, as well as any of our other paints, are not recommended for surfaces that come into direct contact with flames such as stovetops.

I found this fire pit on the side of the road, presumably because it was all rusted over. I did a quick clean with a wire brush then used this can of spray paint to paint it black. Looks just like new!! Amazing!!

Since fire pits are know to have rust problems, before I used my new fire pit I sprayed this all over. It was nice that it did not change the appearance and I know it will increase the fire pit life while adding rust resistance. Great that it is rated up to 1,200 degrees. The coverage was good and more than I expected. At the low price this is a good value.

I had an existing brass fireplace screen around my wood burning fireplace and my wife wanted to paint it black. We had looked at options and ended up settling on this. We used some de-glosser first and then painted the screen with this stuff and it covered and worked great. We are very happy with the results.

This paint worked great and was just what I needed to re-paint my portable fire-pit. In just a few months, it rusted out from the southern summer humidity! I followed the directions on the can. It was easy to apply and dried fast. It went on even and smooth and as you can see in my pictures, looks really nice. The pit looks almost new again. This was a fantastic inexpensive fix that will get me thru another summer with my fire -pit. I highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spray paint The Rust-Oleum products that I have used in the past and present, have been wonderful. The Bar-B-Que paint works very well with minimal preparation. The 2X paint is one of my favorite paints. I have used it on several different applications. I'm really impressed by the way it holds to plastics so well. I've recommend your products to several of my friends! Thanks,Bryan Conklin
