Can I use this paint on the exterior of an old natural gas room heater? I'm sure the surface doesn't get too hot, maybe 150F-200F max. Once it's dry, will the paint out-gas weird chemicals into the air? Or is it safe to use inside?

I would like to paint the cover of my stove, where the ventilator screen is. It is the ventilator, that is built into the cabinets above my stove. Is it safe for that purpose?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dried in mid air Today was a hot day so perhaps that is the cause of the problem I had with this paint. It seemed to go on like a matte finish powder rather than as "sticky" paint. I eventually held the can really close to the grill and it still did not go on like normal spray paint. I waited a couple of hours and I rubbed my hand across the grill and my hand was full of black powder. Tomorrow I'll wash the grill and see if any paint actually stays on it. August 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Touch up Used it to touch up a fire pit ring. Works really good. No need to primer. January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Painted wood furnace I used this to paint over an ugly rusted brown wood burning furnace and it totally brought it back to life. I painted the stovepipe as well and both have held up perfectly for two years now. January 23, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Coverage - needed two cans I'm not really sure why everyone else is so high on this product. Maybe I got the two bad spray paint cans? But I thoroughly cleaned and prepped my surfaces, I properly shook the spray paint for a good 5-10 minutes, and I made sure to follow all directions. I however had uneven, blotchy results. Furthermore, I had to run back to Home Depot to buy another spray can to complete the second and third coat to finish the job. Maybe their liquid paint in a can version might be a better option - that item seems to have higher reviews. Hindsight is 20/20. August 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Covers great! This easy to use spray gives an even coat that covers well and looks great. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 'Ain't It Black? I really hate being asked to rate a product, shortly after its purchase, when a large part of the review should be directed towards the longevity of a product. I used this to repaint part of my charcoal grill that had been damage by heat. (I thotlessly put the lid down on the chimney starter.) This paint went on easily and covered well. If the grill looks good a year from now (July 2017), then feel free to change all my rating to 5 star. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What I needed with choices available at different prices that I can afford. Several colors available with High Temperature ratings available at different levels and different price ranges. I can always count on Home Depot to deliver. Thanks, CC June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kids had no idea I work for an after-school program where 1/2 of our curriculum is STEAM based. we made solar cookers using empty 2 liter soda bottles where in we placed an empty soda can painted with the black high heat spray paint. We actually cooked cheese wraps and the kids loved the way they tasted and were looking forward to cooking hot dogs and so-mores. I'm even trying to find a slightly bigger aluminum can so that I can cook dinner for two. Great project and one I will try again next year. April 5, 2016
