I was super excited to try this out but after reading all the other negative product reviews I was a bit scared. I thought that paying extra for the other more expensive brand was not worth it so I decided to give it a try. I taped off the area where I wanted the board to be with blue tape and covered my floor with newspaper just in case of any spills (which turned out to be absolutely necessary). I then calculated how many coats I could apply with a 15-20 minute dry period before the 1 hour was up which is really important because apparently after 1 hour of mixing the paints it can no longer be applied! With that in mind, I mixed the paints and began applying it although to my surprise it was not like regular paint. It was VERY thin and dripped A LOT (so covering up the floor is a must). I also noticed that it appeared to be seeping through the blue tape that I had applied since it was so thin! After doing a few coats there were still some small spots that the paint didn't cover 100% although my hour was up and I couldn't apply any more layers. After I had allowed it to dry for about an hour I peeled off the tape and was horrified to see that the paint had went right through the tape and left a horrible mess on my walls! However, the paint under the tape was still wet as opposed to the paint outside the tape which was dry. I got to work with a sponge and some soapy water and I washed along the lines. The (wet) paint that was under the tape washed off while the (dried) paint outside the tape stayed untouched leaving me with the crisp lines I wanted. So in the end, I was able to clean up most of the paint that had seeped through the tape (only because it was still wet) and was left with a cool looking (and functional) whiteboard! Overall, if you are willing to put the time and effort into it, you can avoid paying for the more expensive (and probably better quality) brand. I love my whiteboard!
Tips: Cover everything nearby with tape and newspaper (the paint WILL drip)
Make sure you can get as many coats as you need before the 1 hour is up
Check under the tape after about an hour of applying your last coat & clean up the spills if need be before they dry!
Use an expo cleaner when erasing on the board (it gets a little ugly if you just use an eraser)

i already had a painted on dry erase board that was chipping so i decided to sand off the old and fix it. the application and directions were very easy to follow and i did everything according to the directions but the end product didn't work as good as it looked. the dry erase markers would not erase without alot of elbow grease. in the end i DO NOT recommend this product

I tried this product because it was cheaper than Idea Paint, but I definitely got what I paid for. I prepped the area according to the instructions, applied three coats and waited 5 days before using the surface. It looked great, but that was it. I used expo dry erase markers, but they did not "erase". The only thing that would erase the markers was Goo-Gone and a LOT of elbow grease...even then there are ghost marks. I was looking forward to having a dry erase wall for months, and now I am starting over from square one. My friends have used both Idea Paint and the Sketch Pad paint, and have had great results and the true functionality of a dry erase board. Skip the Rustoleum brand!

I have been happy with chalkboard paints and wanted to try this product for my classroom. I followed all the directions exactly. Yep, you can write on it, but you'll end up seeing everything from now on no matter how hard you scrub. Super sucky product.

Better off buying a dry erase board. Once dried and ready for use, markings from dry erase markers would not come completely off board.

I decided to try this product on my tables for the writing center. It is extremely easy to use but don't rush the process. Before applying be sure to use a primer and allow it to dry overnight before applying this product. In addition , use a foam roller to ensure you have a smooth finish. This product does require you to take your time. It is not like regular paint. It is like pouring milk out of a jug so you have to be sure you line the surface you are painting with painters tape because it is going to run some and you don't want it to get on areas where the paint should not be. Once you apply your first coat you have to allow it to dry about 20min then apply the 2nd coat. The paint can't be reused so you have to use it all in one setting. I was able to cover 2 tables with one kit. My students are going to enjoy writing directly on the table.one other tip, use basic dry erase markers like blue, black, red, brown, ....no neon colors and use a magic eraser as your eraser and not the usual dry eraser. I hope I was helpful in helping you determine if this product is for you! Shun, 7/2016
