can these shingles be used to roof a shed or gazebo?

Asked by: pwr
I'm confused by the answer given that these shingles can't be used for roofing, considering the SBC website lists them as roofing and siding shingles. At 5" max. exposure per course, why WOULDN'T these be appropriate for roofing?

5 in. x 16 in. Natural Kiln Dried Eastern White Cedar Shingle Siding is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cedar Shingles for Rustic look Cedar shingles are good quality with very few throw aways. Very random widths give a nice rustic look. Biggest problem is the sanding is very erratic. Some shingles are quite smooth, some are rough, and some are partly both. When they describe shingles as "clear" they mean just the bottom 5 in. that will be exposed. I used these on an exterior wall and they look rustic, which is what I wanted. Third time I have installed these.

The box contains a random assortment of widths. Some boxes have lots of wider ones and some boxes have almost all under 6". Open all boxes and shuffle before installing.

They are on the thin side, so care must be taken when installing. We hope to use a stain on them and hope they will hold up well. Time will tell. They really accent our upper level and window.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Different Product I ordered two boxes of the shingles and one box came without primer and the other game with primer. I had three force of the area put up in the natural Cedar that we were loving and then when we open the other box the shingles were all gray due to the primer which caused us to paint the shingles. Home Depot give me a lousy 15% back because of the inconvenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product First time ever working with this product.. seems a little brittle if you smackt to hard with hammer... or use to big a nail.... but the smaller peices are exactly what you need to properly stagger the seams, wouldn't hesitate to use again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Random width Website has conflicting information, it says 5 inch width but also says random width. I called for clarification and was assured that they were all 5 inch. But they are not. Guess I will see how good return policy is.
