what does left handed mean ?

Answer: 
This determines which direction the lever is facing. Handing is determined by what side of the door your hinges are on. If you are facing the front door, and the hinges are on the left side...you would need a left handed lever. If you are facing the front of the door and your hinges are on the right side, you would need a right handed lever.
