This item enabled me to accomplish a project that would have otherwise been impossible.  It was critical to the success of plumbing an exterior spigot which was leaking and required replacement.  Unfortunately while investigating the routing, I determined the point of entry into my house is right above the foundation wall, which then runs 11" before angling down between the joists.  There is a 4" gap to access the entry point, and the small dimensions would have made soldering a new connection virtually impossible without hiring a plumber.  And even then, given the space to work in, I'm not convinced it could have been safely installed. This slip coupling allowed me to connect a new spigot with ease, and the ability to disconnect it in the future to replace the spigot in minutes is incredibly useful.  I could not be more happy with this product.

Several reviews of Shark Bites in various sizes, particularly the 3/4", complain about the difficulty found in sliding the coupling over the existing copper pipe. Here is an easy way to install it that will completely eliminate the use of wrenches, hammers, etc, not to mention profanity. It's all in the preparation! This prep technique takes about 5 to 6 minutes but it makes all the difference in the world. 1) Cut off 2" of the damaged pipe. 2) Smooth the cut using either a bevel tool or emery cloth and sand paper/cloth. Start with the emery cloth that is used when soldering. Smooth the outer edge of the cut and then give it another pass with 320-grade sand paper. 3) Use the emery cloth to clean approx 3 to 4 in. of the pipe for the sliding end and 2+ inches to the other end of the pipe until bright and smooth. Wipe with clean rag. 4) Follow up with 320-grade paper on both sides until smooth. Wipe with rag. 5) Follow up with 600-grade sand/cloth paper. Wipe with rag. 6) Give final polishing with 2000-grade sand paper. The pipe should shine like a mirror by now. 7) Wipe vigorously with rag again. 8) KEY STEP: Spray the inside of the Shark Bite connector and both ends of the pipe with a dry lubricant such as Liquid Wrench of Blaster. Do it approx 2 to 3 times. Be generous. 9) The 'slide end' of the connector will slide over the pipe like it's on bearings. 10) Line up the end of the Shark Bite with the end of the receiving pipe and, using the Release Tool included in the kit, you will be able to pull the Shark Bite 1" over the pipe easily in a matter of seconds without the need for banging it with a wrench of cussing.

I have an older home and several places on the main water line I had pinhole leaks. Some places were really tight or very close to framing and joists in the basement where traditional soldering was going to be difficult or next to impossible. I was skeptical about SharkBite fittings. But these Push-to-Connect slip Couplings have saved me $$$ and have held up over time. It has been three years since I did the first two and I have gotten more pinholes on the line. It is getting to the point of redoing the whole line at some point, but until then. These work great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll never solder again. A pin hole leak in a 1/2" copper pipe in the ceiling created a "mystery" stain in my Mom's ceiling. After hiring a roofer ($300) a handyman ($100), the source remained a mystery. After opening a hole in the ceiling I found the source - a pin hole leak. Not wanting to solder a coupling sleeve, I checked the local code and purchased a SharkBite slip coupling. It installed easily and solved the leaking problem. Great product SharkBite

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and easy fix to punctured pipe When a nail found a 3/4" pex pipe during this weekend's framing project, this DIYer thought a plumber would be required to put a stop to the newly-created gusher. I gave this slip coupling a try, though I was skeptical. To my surprise, this unit was not only incredibly easy to install, it works like a charm, saving me an embarrassing call to the plumber, and possibly even my marriage! Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Fantastic! These push-to-connect or slip couplings from Sharkbite is simply amazing! I had a leaking water softener but to replace the softener head I had to remove all the copper pipes by cutting it because it was all welded together. I cut my pipe at the inlet and outlet end and push these 2 couplings on each end and put everything back together. No leaks and just easy to install.

Mine was purchased to connect the newly installed whole-house filter to the house water line in early January, 2017. This slip coupling provided two required features in my plumbing. The FPT Fitting on my filter system was plastic and soldering next to it was simply not an option due to the needed elevated temperature. Without soldering, I was able to fit everything in a tight space. The slip coupling allowed me to tighten the pipe-thread joints a little more and seal any hairline leak/dripping during installation. Free-rotation and adjustable insertion length were the key in this aspect. Conventional compression fitting only could have fulfilled the free-rotation aspect but not the flexibility in insertion length. What is important to remember, though, is to keep enough clearance between the slip end and the next fitting for inserting the orange disconnect tool as shown in the photo. The disconnect tool would be inserted in between while reducing the pipe insertion depth and allowing the longer distance/gap when the pipe-thread joint was tightened. I had to take the joints apart about five times during installation. It actually was not easy to disconnect with the disconnect clip but could be managed. I am personally very satisfied with the fitting and how well it had worked out for me.
