We bought this air conditioner for a garage we converted into an office. The room is approximately 200 sq. ft. and this thing cools it down quickly. It's pretty quiet and the remote is really handy. All you need is a 13" height for a window but we put it in a wall. Installation only takes a few minutes. It works well and for the price you can't beat it. Highly recommended.

This air conditioner stops blowing when it reaches the set temperature. My wife said it is like having central air.
Love the ability to set the temperature to a specific temperature. My old air conditioner did not have this feature. Also like the timer feature.
It cools my bedroom well, which is the most important feature of any AC unit. It is also quiet.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Frazer Exactly what I needed!
I work nights and sleep during the day, and while my 4 year old 5000 btu Frigidaire did the job of keeping me cool while I slept, it was a bit loud and took a little while for me to drift off to sleep. The 6000 btu Sharp was whisper quiet in comparison and I feel asleep much easier. In addition to all the extra features it has, the Sharp's thermostat would, almost imperceptibly, shut the unit off when the room hit the desired temperature, and quietly turn back on when the temperature rose, while the Frigidaire would just cut to an equally loud fan. Easy to order online, then about a 15 minute response time to come and pick up the item. From the time I ordered it, to the time I turned it on, was just over 2 hours. The $40 extra cost of the Sharp was money well spent!

This was the quietest unit I could find, but it appears that it has been updated to a newer and noisier model. Three ship to home attempts resulted in delivery of the noisier model. Two were returned to the store, and we were resigned to keep one. Home depot provided a 10% refund for the inconvenience. Will update once installed.

I bought this specifically for the low noise rating since my old air conditioner was keeping me awake at night, and while this one is quieter (more quiet?) than any other AC unit I've ever had, it's not the silent runner I was hoping for. It's really just quiet enough to not wake me up when it kicks on at night. So my goal was achieved but only just. It's a fine air conditioner in every other respect and I'm glad I bought it, but the search for a whisper quiet unit goes on.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Butch Noisy compressor
I spent $30.00 extra on this unit vs comparable models due to the lighter weight and favorable reviews with respect to noise.
Unfortunately, that isn't the case with this one. The compressor is easily nosier than our 5200 BTU Kenmore that we picked up in 2006 and also seems louder than the 8000 BTU Kenmore A/C it's replacing. This is especially important being located in our bedroom.
Other pertinent points:
-Buttons are obnoxiously loud -- very annoying beeps when adjusting the temperature
-Side curtain/panels are not flush, which will easily permit mosquitoes (among other insects) to enter with ease.
-Side curtain/panels do however have a nice design where they butt up against the window casement.
Last thing I want to do is return an A/C entering June, but the sub-par performance leave us no choice but to check out the similar GE and LG air conditioner.
Hopefully you have better luck if you pick this up, but again - a 5200 BTU A/C with 7 seasons of use on it tromps the Sharp with respect to quietness.

Product would not turn on. Spoke to Sharp customer service & they tried to find a service company that would come out & look at my unit. I have a horizontal sliding window that I had the unit installed in. It costs me $100 to have someone custom built a window frame to fit the unit.
Sharp was unable to find a serviceman to come out & fix the unit. I returned the unit to Home Depot & purchased a G.E. A/C unit & it works fine.
