can this be used outside

Asked by: Anonymous
I think it could be used outside if under a covered area. It's not going to work well if it's exposed directly to the elements.

Do these carpet tiles come in other colors?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Nancy, These tiles are available only in the 8 different colors shown online. The color Golden Wheat shows discontinued, but our product development team decided just last week to reactivate this color. We expect inventory of that color in about three weeks at which time the description will be updated removing the discontinued message. Please note that the Berry and Hunter Green colors will be discontinued once we our out of inventory. As of this morning, we have about 100 boxes of each color remaining in inventory. Thank you, Shaw Industries, Inc.

Berber Smoke Loop 12 in. x 12 in. Carpet Tiles (20-case)-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 122.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Berber Golden Wheat Carpet Tiles Great product. Easy to install. Took me approximately two hours to do two closets, each approximately 30 sq ft. One problem that I was not aware of until I was done and stepped back to view the "work in progress" - there is a definite "grain" to the tiles. The instructions say to alternate the pattern (probably to elininate the 'reversing the grain' prolem). But, I wanted to keep the pattern going in one direction, like a regular berber carpet. SO, be careful to check for the grain before you actually lay the tile. I found it easiest to dry lay a line of tiles, then step back and look at them. If any are backwards, they will show up and you can correct them before you actually lay them. You will love the ease of installation and finished look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised! I recently purchased this for our home office. Easy installation, I highly recommend the checkerboard installation method of turning each neighboring tile 90 degrees. This flooring was a marital compromise. I wanted ceramic tile because we have a dog, my husband wanted carpet so it would be a bit warmer on the feet. This works for us both so that if there's an accident with the dog, we can spot clean or replace tiles in a snap. I was skeptical when I bought it, but am surprised at how nice it looks! Just ordered more for a spare bedroom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, inexpensive carpet tile I have had installed for about 1.5 months now and am very pleased. I installed these in a 400sqft area of our finished basement directly on concrete (concrete that had vinyl tile and other junk on it years ago; so it wasn't virgin). I went with smoke/blue checkerboard patter with alternating grain between colors. Looks really good for the cost. The padding is pretty minimal, but beats stepping on ceramic or concrete. Have seen other carpet tiles at a local hdw store that were a third of the cost, but they were a third of the thickness. There are cheaper options out there, but I found the Shaw CTs to be a happy medium. I couldn't find anything under $2/sqft that I liked besides this stuff. Installation: Pretty straight forward. Make sure to acclimate your tile to the temps in your room before installing. I did have issues at first with the adhesive peeling off with the backing. To remedy I would get a corner/edge started then pull very fast while holding on with my finger tips/pads (to not tamper with the adhesive too much). I would pull directly along the tile (don't pull perpendicular to the tile). Treat it like a bandaid on your softest and hairiest skin. Even though the direction arrows are on the backing; it's pretty easy to tell the grain direction. Tiles went on easily, but I did have to shave edges periodically to get the corners to line up. They are all definitely not 12"x12" square, but it was pretty negligible. Not exactly easy to cut. My shears would get gummed up. A lot of time was spent cleaning and prepping the concrete surface, but that isn't unique to these tiles. I did notice after 5 or so boxes in that the color matching is not identical from box to box (smoke especially). If you know you are going with these and returning them isn't an issue I would open all boxes and mix them all up. I think this is good advice for any tile floor, but particularly with this one. You can very easily remove a tile to reposition if needed. The adhesive works well for shear (side to side) force, but pulls up easy enough to replace a stained tile or one that needs adjusting. I didn't rent a roller, but instead walked over the tile as much as I could. I have about 1/8 to 1/4" gap at the walls. Usage: I have had one Red Pop spill on these and with some foaming carpet cleaner it seems to have all come off. Vacuuming between the bumps is challenging. Our Dyson sometimes can't get stuff in the valleys. I was concerned the Dyson would tear up the carpet as it has chewed on area rugs, but this hasn't happened. The Shaw CTs feel a little coarse and scratchy on bare feet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tiles work perfectly over old linoleum in a closet. The product worked perfectly and looks good. It was a little difficult to get ahold of the plastic film on the back to pull off . . . once you got enough of it between your fingers, it came off okay . . .just hard to get it started. Otherwise, the job went smoothly and didn't take long. I used good kitchen sheers to cut the squares which was easier than with a untility knife . . .just cut along the ridge line. Would buy this product again. Not sure I would like a whole room though where the ribbing run at 90 degrees to each other . . . makes more of a pattern than i would like in a big room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Where do I start...We just bought a house that has the 9x9 industrial asbestos tile in the basement. We wanted a quick and easy solution to covering them. These tiles were the perfect idea. They stuck to the tile great...they've been in for a month with no peeling corners and no problems at all. They look amazing (I did greay and black tile for a checker pattern) and were super easy to install! Took my fiance and I about 4 hours (including making all our cuts) for around 350 sq/ft. The only semi-complaint I have is that one whole box of tile gave us quite a headache when trying to remove the plastic from the adhesive back. Other than that one box we had no problems. I would definetly recommend purchasing these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Berber carpet tiles! I installed this peel and stick, berber carpet tile over a concrete basement floor that had cracked, 1950 vintage rubber tile loosely applied. I used a checkerboard pattern when applying the smoky blue tile. The area covered was a bedroom for my pre-teen son and the large adjoining den/game room. Very, very easy installation and it stayed put during the entire 6 years I lived there. It did not shift or show wear. When the 50 gallon fish aquarium leaked one night, we pulled up the wet tiles, washed and dried the floor and installed two dozen new tiles. It took about 30 minutes and looked like new. We also had two cats. As I said, tiles are easy to replace when pets have an accident. It is a little rough on bare feet, but the kids didn't care. It insulated the cold concrete floor and looked great and the basement was significantly warmer and quieter than with the old rubber tile. Additionally, it was very inexpensive. I have recommended it to others and would definitely use it again. Also the color was even too. However, don't lay it with all of the ribs going in the same direction, the lines will not line up, use only in a checkerboard layout. Great product, great price. I was 50 at the time of installation and a woman with severe arthritis. I did it myself with no help and had no problems! Perfect for a game room, utility room or kid's room. You just cannot wreck it! When I sold my house the new buyers walked into the basement, saw the floor and said "we can easily see that there are no water leaks in this basement!" It was well worth the small investment and minimum effort it took to install!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great product that was very easy to install I used these tiles in a tool/furnace room with a very poor vinyl floor that had some dry stains that had bled up from underneath so I couldn't use regular vinyl tiles or the same thing would happen. I didn't do anything special to cover or prepare the vinyl floor other than clean it, but just laid these carpet tiles right on top of it because they won't show any irregularities as another vinyl tile would do. They were very easy and fast to install, stick really firmly, look great with no issues about "bleeding" from underneath, fit snugly together and are easy to cut when you need to go around something. They're also easy to keep clean (although I did order a dark grey) just vacuuming regularly, are so tough they'll probably last forever and the price was very reasonable. Anyway, they really suited my purpose and I'd highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are great! We bought the smoke color and the chocolate brown and did a checkerboard pattern. They look great. These are not intended to be very padded, so I would think twice before using them in a family room or other room where comfort and cushioning is important. We used them in a laundry room and basement storage area and it's the perfect application. Much nicer than walking on cold basement cement floor, but not so nice that I am afraid of a little dirt on them. And it is nice to be able to replace a square if you ruin one. Highly recommend for utility use!
