Are these really adjustable? Fit a 4 1/2 inch by 4 1/2 inch posts!

Asked by: Gma5
By "adjustable" they are referring to the base being able to slide a little though a slot on the bottom.

Can u use this to support a fence post?

Asked by: Mikey
The Strong-Tie installation guide says the adjustable post base should not be used for fences: "Post bases do not provide adequate resistance to prevent members from rotating about the base and therefore are not recommended for non top-supported installations (such as fences or unbraced carports)."

This post base doesn't keep the post from moving when it is installed into concrete. Also when you use a 1/2 drill as the anchor says to use, the anchor gets stuck even before you tap it in with a hammer. This makes it almost impossible to get the anchor out to readjust. I think there should be a better support post bracket that has at least 4 sides to screw into instead of just 3 sides.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oxidizing in 6 months There galvanized products will oxidize very quickly with pressure treated wood. There Warranty is more or less a no liability for there products. I called and was told that because I live a few miles from the ocean that I should have bought stainless steel. But I have other hangers on the ceiling joists that don't get rained on and there not oxidizing.

Used these to mount deck posts, and TREX sleeves, directly onto deck surface (where posts set in ground, or bolted to joists, were not available). Using sufficiently heavy/long bolts (requires drilling holes into product) provides a bond that's a good as you could expect.
