These are shear bolts. If you run the blower into a block or something, the shear bolt holding the augers in place will break saving the shaft.

Those are sheer bolts for if and when you hit too much snow and your tines stop turning. They replace the ones that break. Never put non sheer bolts as replacements or you could permanently damage your blower.

Also, since you WILL eventually shoot a rock through the unit, the best feature is that the pin on the shoot is easily replaceable. Simply pop out the cotter pin, slide the pin, and slip in a new one. Home Depot sells them for about $2.00. Other units are NOT serviceable and will leave your chute broken if you pass a stone. I was able to get the box in the back of my 99 Ford Escort Wagon, though, it had to go in sideways. As the oil comes pre-filled, I took it out after a short drive, unboxed it, and with it disassembled, it fit in the back just fine (upright).

I picked it up in a Chrysler Pacifica. The gentleman who worked at Home Depot broke it down for me. He took some bolts out to make the handle fold down and took some bolts out to take off the chute. I got it home and it took less than 5 minutes to reassemble. You definitely need something at least as big as a crossover SUV. It's not a small machine.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1422 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Snow Blower I purchased this about a month before the blizzard in January 2016 where we got 30" of snow in two days. This machine was a beast and I went out and cleared our long driveway about every four hours and when the blizzard finally stopped, our driveway was clear and our neighbors were snowed in for several days. Great snow blower....the instructions were very straightforward and this machine worked perfectly and started up right away every time. It is built very well and I was impressed with it's ease of use. One thing to keep in mind is if you have very deep snow, you will want to set the wheels so they both turn to gain added traction. It comes so that only one wheel is set to turn as this makes it easier to maneuver the snow blower, and this is fine in light snow. February 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by First impression is this is a very good snow blower. I bought this SnowTek 24" Snow Blower just in time for a 12" snow fall. I picked the machine up at the shipping company because a tractor trailer would have difficulty turning around on my street. It was easy to assemble, and started on the first pull. I like that it also has an electric start option by plugging in an extension cord. A few days later we were hit with 12" of light fluffy snow. The machine handled it with ease. The chute control works very easily and can be done on the fly. The tires had no problem moving the machine thru the deep snow. I cleared my 150' driveway and large parking area in about an hour. The next day I cleaned up heavy wet snow with thin layer of ice on it. It was no problem for this machine, tho of course it did not thow the slushy heavy snow very far. I am very pleased with this SnowTek based on my initial experience with it. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The new love of my life. . . . . Purchased this back in early December 2015 when it was 60 degrees around Christmas and couldn’t wait to test it out. I have used the machine 3 times so far with the biggest test being today during the big east coast snow storm of January 2016. The machine has far exceeded my expectations. Assembly was easy with clear illustrated directions keeping in mind that I consider myself somewhat mechanically challenged when it comes to those types of things. Has always started on the first pull even for the very first time. Very easy to operate with intuitive controls and the adjustable speed self drive makes it a breeze to direct and handle. Pushed through 8 to 10 inches of snow in my driveway without one issue. Discharge operates better than expected and as advertised. Took less than 30 minutes to do my driveway. Nothing so far but the highest praises and recommendation for this product and clearly one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. I highly recommend this product if you’re in the market for a better than average slow blower. January 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Blower, Bad Assembly Quality Control I recommend taking off the black metal belt cover just behind the chute and checking the U shaped metal belt guard clearance befor using the unit. Or at least if you smell burning rubber, stop and check before it fails. I bought this a couple months ago and when yesterdays blizzard dropped 30 inches of snow on us, I was happy to have this Snow Tek. Worked great at first, but then I started smelling burning rubber and the blower would not throw snow far. I was embarrassed to have my new blower fail me since I made a big deal to the neighbors about finally replacing my 19 year old Craftsman with a nice new Snow Tek. Today I opened up the belt cover and found that the U shaped belt guard was installed crooked so that it was wearing the outside edge of the belt. The thickness of the belt was worn down so much that the tensioner did not have the right amount of tension. I loosened and straightened the belt guard and readjusted the tensioner. I had to blow out a ton of rubber from the whole assembly. Now it works well. Aside from this, when it was working well I was surprised how far the snow was being thrown and how strong the motor was. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sno-Tek 24" Sioux Falls SD Solid powerful and reliable looking to use it more. December 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Great Snow Blower We had the unit delivered to our home, and assembly was very easy. We live in Colorado, and right after I ordered it, the weather turned nice, in the 70's for a month and a half. That said, on March 23rd we got hit with a late blizzard which laid down about 24" of WET snow, with drifts over 36" in places. This "Sno-Tek" snow blower is fantastic!!! While many of my neighbors struggled with their snow blowers moving the very wet, slushy, snow, my new Sno-Tek unit was shooting the snow from my driveway 25 to 30 feet in the direction of my choosing. It seemed the deeper the snow was, the further it threw it. This is a very good product, and I highly recommend it!!! March 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by defective worked well maybe three times, then the gas tank sprung a leak and has been useless since...biggest waste of money ever...terrible warranty, it will cost as much to repair as it will to replace. Huge disappointment, thank god that the 15-16 Minnesota winter was mild May 8, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Was ok Came with parts broke Home Depot was no help unless I waned to taken more time off for them to come pick it up and more time off work to receive the next one. They wouldn't even let me ship it to ta close store so I wouldn't have to take time off work. I was on hold while they looked for a store that had one for me to drive there and exchange it and ended up just pitting me to a store with out talking to them on why I was calling. I would not buy any big items from Home Depot again. I tracked down the phone numbers to get parts for the snowblower and they shipped them to me lucky I am handy with tools. February 23, 2016
