I wanted to buy a bigger gas blower, my wife a smaller electric one. We compromised and did what she wanted!
We've only lived in Canada for a few years and our previous address was well serviced by commercial snow clearing. We bought a new house, last year shovelled everything which soon lost its appeal so this year decided to try a blower.
We just had a foot or so of snow. The blower did a good job of clearing the snow, much less effort than shovelling. We have a wide driveway (two car width). At around the centre of the drive the blower was getting some of the snow onto the garden but a lot was dropping on the driveway which meant this snow had to be reblown to get it onto the garden. Nearer the edge of the driveway the snow was blown well onto the garden. Changing the direction of the chute the snow comes out was easy making our curved paths not too much of a problem. On the snow the small wheels dont really work and the machine seems to slide along on its belly.
The city snowplow came later and left two foot of heavier compacted snow at the end of the drive. The blower generally handled this well also although all of this was fresh overnight snow so none of the icy really compacted stuff.
Both me and my wife found it easy to use even though I have rheumatic problems in my hips and shoulders. Long straight lines it works really well, having to work it round more tight spots was more tricky especially with a cable in tow but the light weight meant this was never impossible.
Although I really have nothing to compare this with generally I thought the first go went well. Lets see how it goes through the rest of the season. We got this at the sale price of -$160, I got no problems with recommending this at that price.Far better than shovelling!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JoeXavier2 Light Weight Thrower
I have a large gas snow blower that I use for the driveway especially for wet heavy snow, but I wanted some thing that I get on and off the backyard rink when the snow is deeper. I have now had the thrower for 2 seasons. Easy to assemble. No mechanical issues, except operator driving over extension cord 3 times (not recommended). The thrower is light and easy to maneuver, but a bit under powered for my liking. I see that there is a 15 Amp model available (I don't know whether it was not available or I didn't see it), but for a few more dollars, I think I would be happier with being able to throw the snow 10-15 feet. I would be willing to give up the headlight as I never use it any way. I would also consider the cordless version (given my experience) but I worry about the power and duration of the charge. One small annoyance that I have is that you have to press and hold the start button at the same time you press the lever to get the machine throwing.

For the price is the best of his category. It's a charm in light snow. For heavy or icy snow just go back & foward dont choke the motor let it work its perfect for traveling I need to clean my house & my business so it's ligh enough and compact to put in my car. I recommand.

My husband and I have always been wary of gas powered snow blowers. In the past, we were at the mercy of the weather if the snow knocked out the power lines. But we have a generator now so I ordered the Snow Joe (which is my husband's name). He was still nervous about it but, once we put it together and he took it out to tackle the driveway, it was like riding a bike! It's a shame you can't have a retractable cord like a vacuum cleaner, which the Snow Joe is just as easy to use as, but my Joe is now thoroughly comfortable to face any future snow with his Snow Joe.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fergie Seems to be a great snow thrower.
The snow thrower was extremely easy to assemble. Within minutes the machine was ready to go. It does not take up much room in the garage and I used it yesterday for the first time with a 5 to 6 inch snow. The thrower worked flawlessly. The snow was a light and "fluffy" type of snow and it cleaned to the pavement easily with no problems.

I owned and threw away an electric snow thrower 10 years ago because it couldn't handle more than an inch of snow. This product is radically different from the older electric snow-throwers.
It takes 12" of snow and throws it 30 feet away! I bought this snow thrower when my 51 year old gasoline-powered Ariens snow blower failed to start. And I had 3 feet of snow on the ground with more to come! Yes, I live near Boston and 2015 is one of the heaviest snow falls in Boston history. The "Ultra" handled all 100" of the month-long barrage.
* "starts" every time
* handles up to 12" of wet or dry snow (make frequent trips outside when you are faced with 3 feet of snow falling in 2 days)
* clears the packed snow-plow mess at the bottom of your driveway
* no gasoline to buy
* no gasoline odors .. you can store this inside your house if you want
* quiet .. does not have any where near the noise level of the Harleys everyone else uses to clear the snow
* it is not self powered, however it is light enough to not need it
* the cord can sometimes get in the way, however you learn how to manage it, just like the vacuum cleaner
* the start/stop handle is fickle (cheap?) .. you need to finagle it a bit to get the electric motor running ... I wish it were of better quality ... I will probably replace it with a water-tight toggle switch.
* It is my new favorite toy!

So far so good. Plugged it in and went. A little louder than I thought it would be. But it works great!
